M6 Road Safety CampaignThe seven deaths on the M6 motorway in South Cheshire in October, have shocked everyone. Local media is urging you to back a campaign for stronger safety measures which has already been supported by local MPs Lady Ann Winterton and Edward Timpson. THE seven deaths on the M6 motorway in South Cheshire, including all six members of the Statham family, have shocked everyone. It is now obvious to everyone that something needs to be done about the state of the M6 motorway in this area. At busy times it is almost overwhelmed by the sheer volume of traffic and serious accidents are becoming more and more frequent. The widening of the M6 or the building of an alternative road would, of course, entail massive expenditure and result in protests. But surely the authorities could come up with some improvement? Any suggestions then, or is it just a petition to ask the government to think about it?

I don't know what, if anything, will be suggested, but even if there can be a short term measure to reduce accidents along this stretch of motorway whilst along term solution can be invested in, then hopefully this can save some lives.

It was in planning 12 years ago, land had started to be bought up for it's expansion. Then good old Blair came in and cancelled it and diverted all funds down to the SOuth East, just like he did with the Manchester metro extension in 2004.

I'd sign a petition for improved driving standards through harder tests, more police, and more bans for bad driving

The whole M6 needs an extra lane from J1 to Preston-the volume of traffic on there is horrendous. And I know around Brum this would be hard to do but after Brum I'm the farmers would love to sell their land for it to be built on! Greedy gets!

Many near where I live lost their homes through compulsory purchase only to see them sold a few months later, by the DoT at prices way above what they got for them. Talk about government profiteering!
