How many people on here went on the pitch that day? As I was only a junior potter I wasn't as heart broken as I would be now if the same thing happened again however I do remember it quite well. Events that stick out in my mind; Thorney was the only player who made an ounce of effort An ex Vale player got punched when he scored "Sit down if you're six nill down" Following my father onto the pitch to launch a peacefull protest, watching hundreds of pissed off Stokies barge their way in to the Waddington suit Proudly telling all my mates at school the following week that I had been on the pitch, to get Coates out.
What was it like for the grown up's of the time?

Kav shooting from the kick off 2-0 down in the eigth minute summed it up for me.
Singing one Paul Furlong
Thinking about leaving when it got to about 5 but thinking we'll hang around a bit longer to see how this kicks off
Brummies joining in the sack the board chants
I couldn't cheer any of the goals as they went in though unlike some in the Boothen that day.
Leaving, arranging to come the next home match on the basis that it can't be any worse than that.
Happy Days - Coates Out

remeber it vivdly at around 10 walking home with my dad got to the bridge only to get 100 odd zulus chasing us back up the hill. all our idiots were on the pitch and they chased a bunch of kids and grandads, says it all took about 2 police horse and 5 coppers and they soon turned back round and walked peacefully back to the station

I remember the feeling of doom when it was 4-0 (I think) at half time. I ventured onto the pitch after the match but didn't bother protesting or anything, just wanted to see what it was like to be on the pitch

I remember it well, feeling shellshocked. The match was a statement from the players as they has been put on the transfer list for not accepting the pay-as-you-play deal by St Peter I think that was also the match that someone went on and handed their Stoke shirt to Griff though to be fair Griff was one of the few players to give a shit. Horrid time for a Stokie. Make it worse it was Trevor friggin Francis in charge too

I remember not being there due to car hunting cos my car had packed up. Glad i didnt go as passions run high and i could have got into trouble.
Was it the lowest moment in our (fairly recent) history though or do 3 and 4 goal home hammerings against Bristol Rovers and Colchester the season after, beat it? Or perhaps the famous Alan Ball defeat at Springfield Park?

I remember, and it still hurts. I am slowly beginning to forgive PC for those times. If someone had told me that day that PC would return some years later and return us to the top flight, i would have either laughed or slapped them in the face. I'll still not call him St Pete, but he's gone someway to making it up

My mate (a bluenose) was in the away end that day. He said all they saw was a load of Stokies on the pitch and all the brum chavs shit themselves and started moving towards the back of the away end. Then they turned round and saw all the Stokies turn right at the half way line and up the stairs. The brum chavs made their way back down the front when the saw the Stokies were not after them. ;D

An ex Vale player got punched when he scored As I remember it, someone ran on after him (McCarthy), but was so fat and slow that the police/stewards caught up to him before he could start wildly swinging. Embarrassing.

I remember like it happened yesterday. It was my birthday and I was at my mum's house (I'm Norwegian so I couldn' be there, thankfully) when the goals just rolled in. It left me totally shellshocked. I've seen the goals later on video and it was slapstick defending of the highest order. Even the ladies team wouldn't have lost by 7 goals if they had played Birmingham that day.

i was there
it reminds me of how much damage coates & humphreys did to this club for such a long time
i wish Coatesy would explain now what was going on all those years. i grew up with constant failure, under investment, our best players being sold behind the managers back. I grew to hatecoates.
which makes it so confusing as to what is going on now. I know it seems like a good investment to Coates now, he put a bit of money in last season because he saw promotion was there for the taking, and the club will make a big profit from it of course. why didn't he show even just a little bit of ambition before?
the amount of times we sold players for big money and spent less than half of it on replacements are too numerous to mention
very dark days, i used to think i would never see anything good happen at stoke, so i'm savouring this season

Yeah, we went on. Seems a long, long time ago now, don't think anybody there that day would have thought we'd be in the Prem by now.

Dark, dark days, remember litle kids on the pitch and grown ups aswell. Take nowt for granted after those dark years and enjoy it now cos it ain't been this good for 30 years in my experience

Stoke City 0 Birmingham 7 (seven)
Like you would have to see it some other way before you believed it!

we were there, i was 19 or so and took my brother and mates. I've never felt so sick, people were running on the pitch left right and center, the balls were being kept when they came into the crowd. I saw one lad get nicked outside when he pulled the ball from up his top and have a kick about. I've only ever felt that sick twice, when we got dicked by brum then when we got dicked by liverpool! I didn't even feel that bad when manure put 5 past us the other week.

This game really was the straw that broke the camels back if you ask me. Following this game we saw the start of the SOS movement and the march from the Victoria ground to the Brit. I can still hear Keith Humphreys words, " I can't see why the fans have a problem, there is only a small minority who are unhappy with what we are doing" You were made to eat those words I think Keith. That was the problem the the regime at the time, there heads were too far up there own arses. The rest is history as they say.

Funnily enough I was just reading the articles from the oatcake in the excellent "With Chayze"book whilst sitting on the throne this morning!
It was a dark day. I felt totally shellshocked. Stokies fighting among themselves in the Boothen. Singing "Peter Coates, Are you happy now?" and "You can stick your f***ing stadium up your arse".
The scenes at full time were harrowing and there was a real feeling after the game that some very dark days ahead! Makes our current position all the more enjoyable though! RoryM

I remember being swept along amongst the baying mob heading for the Waddo suite...I was honestly just going in there for a nosy at what was going to happen, but when I got to about three steps from the top of the John Smiths, I was singled out by a steward and my path blocked.
I can't remember what was said between us, but I remember laughing at him for singling one bloke out when immediately behind him, big aggressive skinheads were breaking into the Waddo suite and smashing stuff.
I think he might have mentally selected me out as potentially the wankest fighter amongst the mob and thought he'd score himself some "steward points" by stopping me going in for a gawp. Bless him.

unfortunatly i was there proberly the worst stoke city experience i have had. dont know why people are blaming pc when it was our esteemed cheif executive who came up with the bright idea of re-strucuring every players contract hence the players went on strike[except for thorney at least he tried!] just shows how much players thought of the fans thou didnt it!?

haha, that was my first trip to the brit as a 13yr old kid. My brother had been given one of those birthday packages where you get a tour of the ground, meet and have photo's with the players then get to go on pitch at half time for a presentation..............and then come the end of the match a loud of tossers trampling all over 4 kids and an old man just to go smash stuff. So yeah, i remember the day, meeting Thorney and Kav, going round the ground, then the biggest hiding ive ever experienced as a fan then getting assaulted by supporters of the same club i support. (Not the only time thats happened i may add). All in all not a good day at all
