I really would like to think we are really in the hunt for Glenn Whelan. Both Burnley and Plymouth have had bids rejected for him now. Hopefully something is being done behind the scenes and we have bid more for him than any other side and he will be unveiled later on today

Money plus Buxton I reckon! As Wednesday are having money troubles the addition of a player could swing it.

Think he will go to a prem team
He is a prem player, or at least has the potential
If we signed him, it would be fantastic

He's not ready for Prem, a move to us is perfect for him!
Touching the top of the table, potential to get there. A much better window than Wednesday!

I suspect we will be doing our upmost to bring Whelan in, as he has long been high on TP's wishlist. Maybe we are checking how long his throwins are

Manager, Brian Laws, said: "I can confirm that we have received a bid from Burnley for Glenn Whelan but it is certainly not an offer that interests us at this time and we have turned it down accordingly."End of the season move perhaps then? Or being very hopeful, hes close to joining us

Isn't he a free at the end of the season? So it would suit Whelan (he'll get a hefty signing on fee in lieu of a transfer fee) but not Sheff Wed (no wonga at all to club coffers)?
So he can moan all he likes, but if they don't take something now, it's nowt in May mr Laws.
So here's the plan Peter: intercept the emails & add a fiver on at ten to midnight on the 31st.

Surely out of Parry, Whelan, Whaely, Giana....Stellios, Routledge (?) and (anyone else? Norris as a wildcard?), we should get at least one of them?
He cited adding to "midfield" yesterday remember.
Otherwise, it's the missing bit of the jigsaw again.
Remember Jan last year when we didn't get a striker and Riccy wasn't quite so reliable up top?
Go on TP splash Peter's cash.

Weds realise,it seems, that there is plenty of interest so they will probably wait until the last few days of the window before accepting a bid.

Derby are interested apparently, they always copy us. I'd rather have Whelan than Stelios, at least he has resale value.

I just want to go up - resale value of the sort of players we are being linked with are peanuts compared to even 1years prem/SKY money & ensuing parachute payments.
football shouldnt be like this, clubs should be encouraged to build sides which normally would exclude paying over the odds for a 33 year old fringe player from Bolton.

Think he would have been here now if he had any real intention of coming. I'm not sure how much our current style of play might appeal to him, in all honesty... but money talks and if we have made an offer then who knows? I wouldn't be surpised to see somebody totally unmentioned on here turn up (a la Leon Cort a few weeks ago).

Looks like Bolton are interested in him too.
Perhaps they will sign him and allow us to take Stelios off their hands?!
I would certainly prefer Whelan though

Bolton have been linked with a move for Whelan (yesterday). Leicester were also mentioned in the same breath as Whelan when Megson was there some months ago. I rather suspect he is going to be the key figure in Whelan's future, especially as it is more than possible that it was he (Megson) who first identified Whelan as a potential Stoke target when he was on our coaching staff. Expect Whelan to move to Bolton for a figure likely to meet Wednesday's asking price, whatever that is.
