No doubt in my mind now
why try playing carpet football when you haven't even got the players to pull it off ?
Why go back - sideways - forwards then back - to absolutely no purpose or remote threat to the opposition ?
ALSO managed to HOOOFFF it as much if not more, so than we did !
No penetration - no threat - no bottle - pretty toothless in fact quite a few dirty 'afters' attempted too, even so they were beaten in spite of the ref traveling to the ground with them also.
e.g. two baggies players collide - no stoke player within yards - result:-
free kick to West Brom ! - nuff said !
I have some friends and work colleagues who are baggies fans BUT
its beyond doubt now - they are indeed a truly crap football team !

I think TP's sarcastic comment summed it up : "I don't like to go back then square, back then square, back then square. I like to go through teams."

After watching Sunderland and West Ham i think i've found another team to go with the Baggies who will finish in the bottom 3, Sunderland were woeful and unless Keane has another £85 million to spend they're fucked.

I've just watched Sunderland lose to West Ham. Their main tactic appeared to be to twat it over the top to Jones and Cisse and they even had a poor Delap imitator trying to throw it long. Yet you won't hear a fucking squeak from the media about their style.

If WBA are so crap (which they are - in spades) why did we set up so defensively? Why didn't we go for the game when it was there for the taking???
The only reason Stoke looked more exciting than Blunderland is because we are Stoke fans. Any neutral would not hold the same view.

What is it ith these managers that come from football retirement and somehow get to manage a club? Zola and Keane are perfect modern examples of this.
i wouldnt have said we struggled yesterday, but he struggled to put it to bed and make goals ot of chances, they certainly didnt give us anything to sweat about

Firstly we DID set up towin the game but our main threat went off injured within minutes. We not only tried to win we DID win. Our game was not great though many of our home games have been VERY entertaining. The bottom line is we won whilst not playing to our max and Sunderland didn't! These margins will define who stays up and who doesn't!

Agree to an extent Trebor, and it is results that count.
However, we set up with 3 sittiing and one attacking midfield player. Even when it was clear that WBA were no real threat, and that Faye was no use, we still took Soares off to put Tonge on.
Our main threat has not scored yet, so I think using his absence as an excuse for our overly cautious approach might be a step too far.

I dont think it was so much cautious as more patient. We all know that this was a must win game, lose and we were on the same points as WBA, win and we pull away. TP was spot on with bringing Soares off whose delivery was poor and it was Tongue who gave us that cutting edge.
Yesterday was about winning and win we did, it was not pretty it was not entertaining but we got the 3 points and at this level 3 points for Stoke are damn precious, because we are going to go through a bad patch and that could be December.
Fulham look a much stronger team than last season Blackburn have quality and will not go down Newcastle away is not easy as Chelsea found out Man Utd well they have the best players West Ham away ???
So a boring 1-0 to beat WBA suits me fine thanks, now for Hull not another easy game is it

Agreed, although I think Blackburn may well go down.

WBA to me were just like Spurs when we played them. Very nice to look at for 2/3 of the pitch but utter shite for the last 1/3. The aim of the game is to get points and all the fools who pay homage to WBA for their style of play really should learn that.

I think West Brom look sunk and Blackburn are stuggling due to the Ince influence. Its lookin quite good for us.

I have seen Brazil a few times and they have looked very loose and open and likely to concede but not too bad going forward. Saturday they were absolute pants and look doomed for relegation. Couldn't name a single baggie who played well and we were by far the better side. I would have been suicidal if we hadn't won it. In fact after this weekend I am much happier than I have been all season about our chances of staying up...wba sunderland and blackburn were shocking

We should have gone at them at bit more, Brazil were the worst side, apart from Spurs, I’ve seen at the Brit this season. AND they ‘hoofed’ it more than we did!
Admittedly, we missed Fuller badly, and when Kits went off I was worried. Cressy niggled them all game (for a change), he was just a bit lightweight and got pushed around a bit.
So overall, 3pts when we were the worst I’ve seen us at home is a good result. We will see a better performance against Dull next week I’m sure.
Goooooooooooooooaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrnnnnn STOKE!

Thanks for the points (again) Brazil. They are dire. We are capable of digging points out. They aren't.

To their credit i thought they were up for the midfield scrap and did well out of a few 50-50s and 5-player battles for the ball in the centre circle.

I was preparing myself for shexy football that all and sundry in the media and Mowbury** have been banging on about…….it turns out they are gash. The media won’t pick up on it though (ditto Blunderland). Keane has spent 80 million on a team which is pretty woeful with one or 2 decent players. He should have been sacked when he spunked away 4 or 5 million on Fat Andy Reid – that is surely a sackable offence?
Keane “I want to go after Andy Reid, 5 million should settle it” Quinn “Ha ha ha ha ha ha……….nice one Roy……..” Keane “What?” Quinn “You’re being serious?” Keane “To be sure I’m being serious”
** What an ugly cunt’ he is.

Spot on Momo. if anyone else play a long ball its deemed as mixing up the play, when we do it its hoof ball tactics, yet our goal on saturday came from a great move and cross, but do we get credit??? do we heckers. biased tv, biased commentators, biased papers. w**kers all of em.

Nothing to convince me otherwise on this thead tonight - West Brom are truly crap
its a wonder we contrived to let them win the bloody league last season (how did we manage that after saturdays showing ?)
ps with Fuller and Tonge in our side from the start
I confidently predict we'll actually spank Hull on saturday
They are a 'one trick pony' living on borrowed time and only fluked the premiership via the playoffs dont forget !
cant wait !

I don't think Hull will be easy, far from it. However I do think we have a decent chance of winning.
From what I've heard Hull have had lots of good fortune by playing teams at the 'right time' having lucky breaks at the right time and having loadsa lucky let offs via the woodwork etc.
Luck generally evens out and we are probably due some and they probably aren't! But having said that I think Hull are a decent team though from what I've seen (two live matches) they don't play much 'football' certainly no more than we do. They are very well organised. resilient, hard working and they have a great team spirit. They are very similar in many ways to us imo.
We tend to be far better at home and they are better away (on results)maybe that proves they are a good counter attacking team and maybe they aren't too good at forcing the pace (as we are at home)
I expect a tight game but as usual I'll predict a narrow Stoke win cos I always do!
GGGGGOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNNSTOKE

Is there any reason why these thoughts were not added to the pinned WBA game thread like anyone elses?
