is covering the Man City game.
Really understands the tactical side of the game, its always interesting listening to what he has to say.
Andy would make a very good manager at club level IMO?

Totally disagree Tony. I think he's a plastic Irish fat cockney thicko who should have been locked in his tactics truck about ten years ago. He's just said "fast players are often the slowest don't you think Phil?" to Tango Man. Riiiiiight.

i always feel some of these pundits who would make good managers dont have the bottle, preferring the easier option of punditry
andy gray and hansen are two of them

JAMIE REDKNAPP? Are you on a wind-up, he makes Townsend look like Bill Shankly! His observations are restricted to sycophantically referring to his cousin as a "top, top player" and unapologetically cheerleading for his dad's team, his cousin's team and Liverpool.

Take it you arnt that much for the bloke then ;D probably means the athletically quick players sometimes think slowest as their game is mostly about speed where as the man who is comfortable with the ball & will hold the ball has the time time pick out the right move/pass? i agree with that, fast players do tend to rush their thinking, resulting in the wrong pass/move.(not all the time of course) Vassel is a prime example

Yeah he did mean that but articulated it so clumsily that everyone paused for a second to figure out what he was blathering on about.
I think you can count the number of decent pundits on a webbed foot, because for some reason we're always lumbered with braindead ex-players. Sunday Supplement on Sky on Sunday mornings is always interesting, having the odd respected journo like Henry Winter on MOTD now and again would be far better than having to listen to Shearer talk for five minutes and say absolutely nothing of interest.

blimey, i can't believe this thread
townsend is a figure of fun in our house - i just assumed everyone laughed at him too

I can take or leave Andy Gray, but he's been pretty fair to us this year, I quite enjoy his last word show as well. He was once assistant to Big Ron at Villa, and Big Ron said that he would never make a manager because he was to much of a nut case

agree about shearer, just why is he a pundit??? probably just because he was a good player, lineker never has much to say on MOTD, butr he is a presenter.

Always liked Andy Townsend as not only does he come across as knowing his stuff but he always has a decent word or two to say about Stoke.
I do believe that he would make a decent manager, so much so that i once started a thread stating this quite some time ago.
Appears a top lad does Andy.
