JCB used the cover of the American election to fuck shit loads of workers off on Wednesday, 20 English welders went from Earthmovers, no Slovak welders lost their jobs, men with up to 20 years service were "let go" while the Slovak's with less than 4 years service were allowed to stay, I've never classed myself as a racist or bigot but this latest act of betrayal is slowly turning my head. Serpi got any comments on this.

Chirper, generally I'm in the serpico camp as you know but this is disturbing news, I've always thought JCB were a pretty good employer and responsible about local jobs. Are the Slovaks working in Rocester and are they being paid at the same rate as everyone else or is this a plant in Slovakia??

Sal, this is just Earthmovers at Cheadle i'm on about, it may be the same across the group i just dont know, Another stunt they've pulled at Cheadle is to lay off 88 men which means they get 1 months severance pay, where as if they lay 100 off they have to pay 3 months, can you see where i'm going, Come xmas there will be more lay-offs but they will keep it below the hundred mark thus robbing the workers of a minimum of 3 grand each, On another point all the Slovaks at Cheadle voted for 39 hours and redundacies knowing full well that they can just fuck off home with their cash, ie 1 months wage equates to 4 months pay at home, so you can see the feelings for these men are pretty low to say the least.

My mate works there (JCB), designing stuff (he"s dead clever). He told me that globally JCB sold 75,000 units last year, & only 25,000 this year. The building industry is f***ed & this is the knock-on effect The stuff about the Slovaks, & the lay-offs makes me sick.

The Pottery Industry is virtually dead now in Stoke-on-Trent..like the Mining Industry and Shelton Steel Works (which at its peak employed 20,000 people)... All this work has been exported overseas to places like Vietnam, The Phillipines China and India/Pakistan where labour is dirt cheap and where a 16 hour day is the norm...and the average age of the worker is about 12... In The Republic of Ireland theres a big Polish community welcomed over when demand for labour exceeded supply..but as Irelands economy went into recession and supply exceeded demand this caused a load of problems with the 'natives'...I can see a similar thing happening here as our economy/jobs start shrinking...and at JCB its already happened... Sad times especially losing your job just before Christmas...

I currently work for Royal Worcester & Spode and it is a hard time but it is not the end of us yet. Redundancies have been made today so it is a sad day for the company.
It is a very worrying time for most of us. Especially as my dad works for JCB and unsure of his future also.

One last piece of spitful peevishness by the managers was putting the 34 hours in place, the last week of nights the workers were told to do 3 times 10 hour shifts and then a 4 hour shift on the last night, so the lads asked if, to save the hassle of doing 4 nights and travelling the extra miles could they do 2 times 12 and a ten hour final shift only to told very bluntly NO, So much for the big green issues the twats have been trying to implement, spiteful peevish bastards the lot of em.

Don't worry! Mr No Boom and Bust will sort it out. Apart from the world down turn, Labour's tax and spend as not helped also the 300,000 public sector jobs that we didn't need! An economy made on debt over the last eight years. Labour has again made total mess of this once superb country. I am sure our Labour friends will list the magnificent achevments that have helped us working class . Labour like my fucking arse

According to some wannabe bankers today (Oxford maths graduates) its the people who take out loans faults and not the banks for issuing them that the country is on its knees! These winkers (who are the next breed of wanker banker) are also insistant that some earning 100k a year works harder than someone earning 15k a year. These are the monkies that are sending the average man and woman down the toilet with their greed and antics. I sound like a communist, that I aren't but talking to these tossers today (one a good friend) I was ready to brain the cunts. Oh and as a side note to the debate we had a family losing their home is the same as that idiot who got the banks 20 billion in debt not being sent down. They took the same risks apparently!

Miss H, good luck and all the best to everyone else hoping their jobs are still going to be there.
Chirper, I meant Labour have gone so far to the right that they wouldn't even claim to be socialist. They might give lipservice to representing working people but they're just in the pockets of big business and finance (and American neo-imperalism).
rmb, since World War 2 only the Thatcher government's been further right than Blair/Brown. The Macmillan and Heath Tories were way to the left of Blair. Attlee was probably the best PM of the 20th century.

As for Ted Heath? beyond my time but my parents said he was a weak, gutless leader. When Labour got back in 74 or 75 the country was well knackered, abit like today but our maggie came along and the rest is history. What a leader she was. What a woman. God bless the greatest leader who as gave us good jobs and can own our houses on shitty council estates.....

The Macmillan and Heath Tories were way to the left of Blair. Attlee was probably the best PM of the 20th century. Spot-on Sal... We are becoming more and more like The USA with two right wing Politcal Parties competing with each other for the favours of big business etc For Democrat read Labour For Republican read Tory.. Anyone who thinks Labour Governments haven't helped working-class people in the past has failed to read their Economic History..what about Clement Atlee and the creation of the NHS in 1946 when every single conservative MP voted AGAINST the creation of the NHS..what about Atlees creation of Beveridges Welfare State? And in 1979 a Conservative Party was elected that pursued identical Economic Policies that were put in place in the 1920's by The Conservative Party that led over 4 milion people being out of work...alongside a massive privatisation-programme that turned the clock back 50 years and shifted the centre ground of British Politics way over to the right... The current Labour Government is absolutely shit-scared of upsetting Big-Business/American Multi-Nationals/Saudi Banks/Oil Industries/The City etc etc and has bent over backwards to accomodate them...with a few scraps of neck-end chucked at ordinary people like working-family-tax-credits etc..BUT... The problem with jumping off Labours sinking ship is that its the Conservative life-boat you're jumping into..led by a man who was a childrens television presenter 4 years ago...FFS.. So whichever way you jump...you're fucked...
