I was down in Stoke yesterday for a Matthews Foundation committee meeting and with much regret it was decided that due to poor ticket sales to postpone the Matthews Foundation Dinner that was to be held @ BFC on Thursday 20th Nov.
Despite extensive advertising of the Dinner, the likely numbers that would have attended would not, in my view, have made the night the success we were all hoping for.
It would seem that the credit crunch has already kicked in here on the Fylde Coast as ticket sales were very disappointing.
Perhaps the timing of the Dinner was wrong, only 5 weeks before Xmas ?
The Foundation are still looking to stage the event later on in the season, possibly early April 2009 when hopefully the financial situation is much improved.
The Foundation have taken on board the comments from a number of exiles regarding staging the Dinner on a Friday night when Pool are at home the following day.
I’m pretty sure the event will now take place on a Friday night so those who travel up for the Dinner can stay overnight and watch the game the following day.
The Foundation also recognize that we should perhaps have offered a small discount to those booking a full table of 10 ie 10 tickets for £ 280 rather than £ 300, this will be discussed further at a future committee meeting.
As soon as I have a confirmed date for the re scheduled Dinner then I will let you all know so that you can make a note in your new 2009 diaries.
I’m very grateful for the support of those who had bought tickets, I can assure you that you will be given a full refund.
Hopefully you will all be in a position to support the event when it does go ahead towards the end of the season.
I’m sure you will all share with me the disappointment that the Dinner will not be going ahead on the 20th November as a lot of hard work had already gone in to making it a success but hopefully all this hard work will result in a great night of nostalgia and entertainment next year.
I am always open to suggestions / comments that you may have that may help make the event a great success.
