Just a bit of Philosophy here really. When I was very young I lived in Eccleshall and as a family we made regular trips into the potteries to see the Grandparents in the Meir. Usually we would travel via Newcastle for some reason, but on one memorable day we found ourselves in London Road, Stoke on a day when SCFC were at home. 1962, "Stan" was apparently back and we were clearly playing a team in blue and white (probably Huddersfield). I can still remember the noise and excitement and I just wanted to be a part of it. I was hooked and became a lifelong Stoke supporter and have attended hundreds of Stoke games home and away, at the Vic and the Brittannia. For some reason though I have never been near the Fail ground. I now live and work in the West Country, but last week I had to visit a well known pottery factory in Sandbach Road, Cobridge. Whilst there, being just up the road, I suddenly found myself looking towards Vale Park. OH MY GOD. I feel that I'm still suffering from shock. When I think how different my life might have been if we had ever travelled through Burslem, perhaps turned a different corner and for some reason I had become a Vale fan. Talk about life changing experiences and revelations of the meaning of life. Now every morning I wake up and thank the Lord I was born to be a Stoke City Supporter.

The difference is, if you had driven past vale as a kid, you will have only seen about 8 people, who would be depressed rather than thousands of excited Potters! So you still would have ended up on the right side.

Meirite through and through, no chance of me becoming a Valeite.... But part of me wishes I did have that choice when I was in my childhood and picking allegiances... I'm not from a particularly footballing family so there'd be no influence, but if I had picked the mighty Potters I'd feel even prouder since Vale were our equals/betters around that time. .

Ermmm....An element of inverted snobbery is at play here I fear...
I on the other hand was born in the city...of (dubious parentage admittedly) but never the less, very proud of the City and keen to see both clubs doing well.
As a kid I couldn't afford to go to every game but I never looked down on Port Vale...and I still don't...but then again I'm from Fegg Hayes...Not Eccleshall.
