Yeah good one, Wenger.
"It should have been a yellow," said the Frenchman
How an earth can he possibly say that? I use to like the guy, but to say that is plain stupid.

if he's stupid enough to believe that & stupid enough not to admonish his stupid player then more fool him.
if he is saying one thing in public & 1 thing in private then maybe you could argue he's looking to generate a siege mentality or something.

So presumably when an opponent intentionally poleaxes Almunia during the remainder of their dire season, and doesn't get sent off, he will be the first to congratulate the referee on getting the decision spot on.
People slag off the likes of Roy Keane but at least he was gracious in defeat - he would have been a man and admitted the red was deserved. Wenger is a prick.

Whilst I don't blame Styles for sending him off, and the way Van Persie went into him it looked bad, but when you watch the replay he doesn't head butt him or make any contact with his head, so perhaps a red might have been harsh, remember Griffin pushed a Chelsea player in the chest and onto the ground, which I think he received a Yellow card for ? if he was sent off for that we'd probably have moaned as well.

If any Stoke player had done that you can bet TP would be saying that he had let the side, and the supporters down.
Theses big PL managers are up their own arses.

I'm not a big fan of Wenger, but to be fair, I thought he was quite gracious in his summary of the game. He could have made a big thing of the number of players that went off injured, accusing us of being bully-boys and the ref of giving them insufficient protection. He didn't. He acknowledged that we were the better side on the day. If that was genuinely his opinion on RvP's sending-off then fair enough. Although I thought it was a red when I first saw it (and still do on balance), having seen it again a few times, I can see how you'd make a case for it being a yellow. It's certainly not as clear-cut as throwing a punch or an elbow. He's just pissed-off that he'll lose (another) one of his best players for three games as a result of this. Let him have his cry!

People slag off the likes of Roy Keane but at least he was gracious in defeat - he would have been a man and admitted the red was deserved. Wenger is a prick. Oh c'mon ... to be fair he was very gracious in defeat. He said that we deserved it, we out fought them, we played to our strengths well and if they had a long thrower they would use it aswell. All that was ignored just because he thought a yellow card was sufficient. Some people on here are unreal and just read what they want to hear as they dont like the bloke. He was very gracious on this occasion and if van Persie hadn't been sent off i certainly wouldn't have been surprised. It was stupid but if you look at it again it wasn't anywhere near as bad as everyone is making out. He just barged him over ... poleaxed ... errr ... no. Then it took a 6'5" goalkeeper over a minute to get up from it which to be honest i found a little bit embarassing. You might think Wenger is a prick but if you want to vent your views on him try using an example where your points actually make some sense.

When you clash with a goalkeeper you always run the risk of a sending off. Sorenson has the ball in his hands and therefore can't defend himself. Wenger is looking at the sending off through rose tinted glasses.

Sorry, but on what planet is an unprovoked clattering of the goalkeeper, off the ball, not a red card? It wasn't some girly half-hearted shove or love tap to the face, he used his weight to barge him over. Styles had no option.

Wenger is a good manager, he is wrong about the red card, of course it was justified, but it doesn't make him a bad manager or person.
Maybe he was a bit bewildered by the sheer stupidity!!!

Even John and Foghorn took the piss out of him afterwards for talking such crap!
