It really is wank isn't it?
I've been a devotee of all PES titles since time began, and with the recent purchase of a PS3 I thought I'd test my skills online against other button-twiddling sad bastards.
What a complete pile of toss it is. The game itself on one player is as good as ever (there isn't much "evolution" going on though) and will no doubt keep me entertained enough with the master league etc, but playing against another person online is just rubbish.
The time lag between actually pressing a button and seeing your player react is chronic, and half the time players seem to appear from nowhere or just disappear completely ( perhaps I've just got Tony Henry in my team?) I ended up hurling my controller across the room earlier when my defender headed the ball up in the air from an opposition corner, and then despite frantic button pushing, stood there as if his feet were encased in concrete to allow an attacker to stroll in and score.
The other problem is that it's impossible to tackle anyone who is running at your defenders. If Ronaldo, Messi or Eto'o get the ball you might as well give up, as you're inevitably going to concede...it is absolutely piss easy to maraud through a defence with any decent player. Not sure if this is just down to the slow reaction symptomatic of online play, or whether it's still the same when playing another person who is in the room with you?
I'm seriously considering going over to the dark side and giving FIFA a try, which I've heard has really come on in leaps and bounds since the days when you were able to always score in certain ways, like some kind of trained chimpanzee. I know the kits are all correct and everything (which I've never given a shit about to be honest) but what is general and online play like on FIFA? Is it much better than Pro Evo these days?

online play is miles better as Pro evo's is quite frankly shit at best, as you pointed out. for general play i prefer it to pro evos but that's just my opinion

I'm glad i didn't buy PES this year then, 2008 was a joke online and totally put me off this years. I bought Fifa for the first time in years. I've been a Konami football fan since ISS 98 on the N64.

You'll be pissed off with fifa as well no doubt. The game decides who wins, if your lucks out jesus wept it lets you know it. Have about 25 shots to their 1 whole shot in the entire game and you'll lose it 1-0.

Been exactly the same myself was a massive pes fan and used to laugh at people who played fifa (which was a bag of wank until recently.) and thought that it was a better game but pes just hasn't improved at all I brought last years Pes which was the same as Pes 5 and I had that on my PS2 and i'll be damned if i'm going pay £200 for a 360 when they aren't going to try improve the game. Really wanted Konami to pull something out of the bag this year and not milk past supremisey over Fifa but playing on the demo it doesn't seem that they have, so ended up getting Fifa for the first time which has been pritty good and the online except every fooker is manure and they've made Rooney stupidly good.

PES is notoriously temperamental online lol, it all depends on where you live, your connection speed, your connection quality and just outright luck. Was it last years PES you could freeze the game online so the other player couldnt do anything so eventually they'd quit and you'd win?
One thing with FIFA is that EA has dedicated servers (on live at least) which does help reduce the likeliness of lag etc, if you play PES and get someone from australia you can almost guarantee it'll be laggy, if you get someone from a country like China, Mexico etc then it is god awful from my experience with past versions.

I've been a Konami football fan since ISS 98 on the N64. Tony Gubba? "The defence is in tatters!" I spent a stupid amount of hours of that game. I'd be Prime Minister now if I hadn't spent much of my education plowing through the international league with Italy.

Likewise, best football game ever in my opinion. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9QJuWg-91MAThe menu music is legendary!

On IIS can anyone remember the "Hop Muck Bang Bang?"
Fromt he kick off, you could pass it back, then up to the left back, run a bit straight on, pass to the winger and cross it in, the attacker would score a overhead kick every time.
Classic.
