Well if Newcastle loseim happy, and when he does ref one of our games lets hope he picks us as the side that he will give EVERY decision to because he must just pick a team before kick off and say right im going to give them every decision going...wanker

Looked pretty decent call to me? Very much the same as Bales yesterday but from behind!

perhaps we need to think about relocating our tunnel a little nearer to where the majority of our fans are?
That's not an invite to any knuckledragger to lob stuff at officials btw, but merely a chance for us to pass on our, ahem, 'vocal appreciation' of the job that our superb officials do.
Saying that, thought the ref was excellent yesterday. Indeed, Woodgate and Hutton couldn't have compalined if they had received two yellows apiece.

Looked pretty decent call to me? Very much the same as Bales yesterday but from behind! Bale definately caught the man before the ball though, whereas i would say Beye has definately made contact with the ball first here.

Bale never touched the ball. In today's incident the defender clearly touched the ball and deflected it, before he caught the man.
Styles is an idiot and should be compulsorily retired. One thing this incident does show is that the rule about sending players off for this sort of thing is daft. Giving the penalty is unfortunate but the rule that says the player in such cases should be sent off is plain stupid.

give the offending team a choice -
peno + players off goal + player yellow card

Styles made a mistake, like ALL referees do.From his position it looked like a pen. Some refs make more mistakes than others,I can't remember a game when I've not questioned decisions but it's a crap game without a ref.

whitehurst, from Styles' position when the tackle went in he should have seen the deflection on the ball. Still, it proves my point that the rule which says the defender is sent off in such circumstances is daft. The sending off will probably hit Newcastle more then the penalty will - they have just equalised but playing with 10 men will probably harm them in the second half.

I hate games like this, newcastle players are now going down too easy to even it up a bit and styles is falling for it

Don't think so lol.Just heard Poll say he thought it was a pen??????????????Work that one out.He said that if you make contact with the ball it's still a foul??????????????I may take my last statement back.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck me! Poll sticking up for Styles! ;D They both are the cackest refs known to man. The sooner Styles get sacked the better. He gets too many big decisions wrong too many times.

Saw it in slomo from a couple of different angles and the ball is deflected very slightly before contact is made. However, as I have said before, refs don't have the benefit of slomo replays from 20 different angles, they have to make a decision immediately on what they see and perceive has happened. Until we get video technology supporting the game as in cricket instead of a tool of castigation, then these mistakes will always happen.

Clearly took the ball first. The red card should be rescinded!

Styles at least has the excuse that he didn't see the incident in slow mo. What excuse does Poll have? He has seen it in slow mo and still says it was a penalty. For once I can't be too critical of Styles for getting it wrong and if he gave the penalty then he had to give the card under the rules. But the card should now be rescinded and the rule about the automatic red card if a goal scoring opportunity is denied in a penalty incident should be looked at again.
