Trouble is chaps its going to get worse before it gets better. I was talking to a friend last night who works at the job center and they are working Saturdays to cope with the backlog of people making claims. New claims that is.

Shit at the moment out there lads. Bugger all.
I went in the job centre after being pushed out of my last job and was told by a certain employee of Newcastle job centre that "people like me usually go on the sick and look for a job that way". Sorry all because I am a bit dodgy sight wise in one eye. I thought the government were working to get people off incapacity.
Top it all off theres one grey haired fat bastard in the Jobcentre who signed me one morning and give me no end of mither because I couldnt see this job log. Jobcentres are useless, purely useless.
You will find another job mate hang in there. Don't rely on Newcastle jobcentre or Hanley one for that matter to help you with anything.

I hear there is a space open in London to become the Speaking Clock. I'm afraid you do have to have a degree in Time but, you can get one, just like that.

Job market is pretty wank at the minute , I quit being a van courier to go back to uni part time, hoping to find a job that would fit round my studies, it didn't happen so i have had to go back to being a courier on a motobike as the van just wouldn't fit round being a student .
Good luck with the job hunting fella

Sorry to hear this yorkshire, and swampy. It's getting scary out there and we're not in the best area either, all the very best for getting fixed up again quickly.
Fingers crossed for your job at least Chirper, hope the others see sense in time.

Best of luck to those of you currently out of work, was in the same boat myself for 3 months earlier this year and wondered when or if I would find something else. Thankfully I did by staying positive and applying for everything I possibly felt I could do.
You're right about the Jobcentre, couldn't wait to see the back of me once I'd found my new job all by myself.
FWIW if you can;t get somethng in your current line, push them hard for some retraining, anythings better than no job.

The job centre up here really doesn't care, hell they don't even check the forms or offer any help. I was unemployed down south for a few weeks before I moved back up here, and they couldn't do enough for me - others who were chavvy and had no interest etc they werent bothered about but up here you do get the feeling your being treated in contempt as though your a chavvy waster who wants to spend his life on the dole.
I'm hoping to have a new job soon I really do hate going into the job centre and I've only done it a few times.

Bank robbing always used to be a good alternative, but even that is fraught with danger nowerdays. They are more likely to rob you......

Signing up with an agency would be my first port of call if I were to be made redundant (and it's a very real possibility in the next year or two ). My mate lost his job about three years ago, did some temping and he's now earning decent money after getting his temp job made permanant. Tis a bit scary out there at the mo, but something will hopefully turn up if you do your best to make it happen.
