This season will require more expenditure just to stay in the Premier League and get ot the target of 40 points (or thereabouts). How much and which positions to be strengthened will depend on the next seven or eight games.
Where should the cash be splashed and which players targeted?

KE, it doesn't really matter how much money we've got or need to spend, we can't do bugger all until January by which time...
What's more key to our fate is a change in mentality and deployment of our current players, let's hope TP recognises this sooner rather than later.

It's how we deploy what we have got correctly, now that the month of death is out of the way let's see if TP can change his spots and go looking for some points, instead of respecting the opposition too much. No more round pegs in square holes, or square pegs in round holes (both side of the argument ;D) play your best person for the position and close the gap between midfiled and attackers.
Oh and come january lets spend £10 million on some pace from midfield and sell a few from that position who are warming their pockets with big cheques and not getting a game. we are overloaded in some areas of the squad and threadbare in others, deadline day panic buying and a wank transfer policy over the summer have seen us failing to get points where we could have. Learn from your mistakes TP and adapt.

well if questions like this are being asked after losing to chelsea, id say... kaka is a must, along with david villa, and possibly andres guardado to fill in that pesky left wing situation

On this Summer's evidence you could give Pulis £100million and he'd spend most of it on defensive midfielders and centre halves then he'd panic buy a few 'crowd pleasers' and never play them and probably finish off with a quality player who he would throw to the lions by playing him in a totally alien position..
How many opportunities have we had to buy a left winger, a progressive midfieder and a pacy forward and a battering ram and failed to do it.
And still people trot out this wizard of the transfer market shit

The reality is to stay in the Premier League the side will have to be strengthened with either loans or January transfers.
Losing to Chelsea is not the problem and drawing v Liverpool is great and shows what can be done with the present team, but the next seven games may result in a maximum of five or six points and things have got to pick up if the team is to, in the words of TP, "push-on" to the target of 40 points and relative safety.

Im personally annoyed that we have got ourselves into a situation whereby if Ricardo is injured / suspended we will be permanantly on the backfoot.
Phil Brown made the point that, whilst they went into the Arsenal name with a defensive approach, they knew that they had forward players who could break very quickly, hold up the ball, bring midfielders into play and cause problems for Arsenal.
Why we were leaving things to midnight on deadline day (Camara, Pennant and Ledley) yet had 'nailed down' 8 defenders / defensive midfielders, only Mr Kemp and Mr Pulis know.

I see your point and I half agree.
But dont forget, we offered Ledley 6m, a sacred amulet, fankinsens, muir, gold and the finest ladies of Staffordshire but he wasnt allowed to come.
Pennant snubbed us, as we dont has Armani slapped to our heads and wont pay for his Ferrari and Young Jeezy album.
Our Dramnani and Austin dreams, potential quick midfield players got shattered by a shit load of red tape.
So really Tony did try but I think when I came down to the last day, he realisd that we needed to bulk up at the back and not be at a bad stage in january where if we have the credibility in which I think we are gaining, we can get these players that you want in.

Like many of the above posts, I don't think it is down to "how much". We have spent plenty, yet we are still in a position where two injuries completely de-rail us.
Playing Richard Cresswell on Saturday is just not acceptable.
I've heard rumours that Kitson is very very annoyed at being sold a lie in his interview, and that Soares and Tonge have looked very good in training yet somehow cannot get into the side.
I hasten to add though that these are rumours rather than "nailed on" facts, but you only have to look at Kitson to see how pissed off he looks. We indicated that "exiting" signings would be joining him. Sadly we didn't tell him how excited we get about midfielders that look like heavyweight boxers.
If we had more money to spend, it'd all go on big stoppers.
