45 mins to park, dodgy scally stops us parking on a public road and tells me £5 to look after my car. I said no so he says we can't park. Asked if he was a copper and told him fuck off. Parked in a school in the end.
But fuck me the streets around the ground wants boldozing. Everything's boarded up!

Was your car okay when you got back? I'd have thought a school'd be one of the more dangerous places to be honest!

:-) yeah was fine. £7 to park but the money goes to the school, and it was pretty secure. Will go there for the Everton game.

paid £10 to park on a scrap yard, which mirrored the surrounding area of anfield, one big fuckin dump. Was'nt expecting wooden seats and great big steel gurders blocking my view either (was sitin with the scousers). from the outside, goodison looks just as "dumpy" as well

Agree Gilberto - to stand there and think what momentous occasions have been witnessed at Anfield was awe inspiring........one that sprang to mind was what would it have been like to be an Arsenal fan on that night in 1989, standing exactly where we were, to see Michael Thomas beat Grobbelar to win the Championship in the last minute of the season.... the mental to end all mentals I suspect....!

anfield is a run down area, but there was also some nicely refurbed victorian terraces, also went in the pub full of liverpool fans and they were really friendly knowledgable fans.a lot better welcome than they would get in stoke town centre believe me.

I hated new stadia when they were first being built and much preferred the authentic British football experience of standing on a terrace, squashed, and having to balance on one leg to get a good view.
Nowadays with ticket prices being so extortionate, I expect a bit of comfort, and Anfield was anything but comfortable. I never thought I'd say it, but I do now prefer visiting new stadiums (especially if they're easy to park at)...perhaps it's because I'm getting old?
The area surrounding Anfield is a dump, and I suspect it's part of the regeneration area (which incorporates pretty much the whole of Liverpool). As we've seen around Stoke this is a long, painstakingly slow process, so chances are it'll still be looking like that for a number of years yet.

Correct Trouserdog, it's happening all over the city. But with Anfield being one of the most run-down areas, they're having the most houses demolished and re-built ; many compulsory. In the interim though, yes, looks awful to visitors.

I thought it was OK. After all Liverpool is a working class City. Some of the places were shit but some werent.
We parked up in a street for free 15 mins away, went in to a good old style pub had a good pint or two and trouble free walk to and from the ground.
No worse than Stoke centre certainly and plenty of choice of food/drink around the ground which we havent got.
Ticket prices expensive though to stand for 90 mins

Wasn't saying I didn't appreciate being there. Was a great experience. But for 34 quid I expect to see the game. There were kids there who could see fuck all!
And why all residents parking when there are no residents!

Stokie.
The streets ARE being bulldozed to make way for the new housing. It is one of the poorest inner city areas in the country and is in deperate need of regeneration.
I too work in Liverpool, and as stated earlier, the people are superb(not all scallies) beleive me.The Anfield residents are all to happy to see a change.
The houses around the Old Vic were not to dissimilar. Difference being they are still lived in and not been compulsory purchased for demolition....

Cool. Good to see it's up for regeneration.
Oh yeah I agree, the people are awsome! Real good laugh. Just the dodgy git trying it on with the parking did my head in (I'll do your car over if you don't give me a fiver).
Did a bit of work years ago at Albert Dock while it was being done up. Went back there after the game and it was really smart. The City itself is awsome! Looking forward to going back for Everton.

I parked 20 minutes walk from Anfield (just of main dual carriageway into city center) after a lad offered to look after it for £2. Didn't want any money until after I got back. Decided to take a chance but also asked one of the Liverpool fans who was walking by and he said he parked there every home match and just gave one of the lads a few quid and no issues. After the game car still there, hub caps and all. Easy drive into Liverpool city center (15 minutes) after the match.

And Stoke is a picturesque city of course
What does that have to do with football? Naples is a shitehole near the ground but so what?
The deprevation near Dundalk's ground is shocking as well- don't start me on Botafogo.

Been to Anfield a dozen times- I actually think Liverpool isn't that bad a city at all. Sure it has its run down areas, everywhere has. Around the grounsd isn't nice at all but as mentioned many times already is up for regeneration.
You get posters from other clubs on here saying Stoke is a shit hole etc and folk get irate. Villa Park- now there's a real dump of an area

I was on the back row and I've never been so bloody hot at a game, nor had such a s**t view. Good job we got a cracking result! Jomtien Cowboy - coming over your way in a few weeks' time for a bit of work and a bit of golf, so it will be good to catch up with you again.
