It was correctly ruled out for offside on Torres who clearly was in an offside position when the ball was knocked in from Gerrard. I have seen it in replay(slow motion) a couple of times tonight and there is no doubt that it was the right decision. Torres is certainly influencial in the insident and distracts Sorensen.Even a friend of mine who is a hardcore Liverpool fan had to admit it was the right decision. ;D

Unusual though for the away team to get a tight one at Anfield-Perhaps our luck is changing

I have just watched Football First. They were too busy trying to make the disallowed goal look controversial to look at it in detail, but right at the end of the transmission there is a freeze frame. It shows the moment that Gerard takes the free kick. There are two Liverpool players clearly offside. It includes the player who jumps for the ball and who the ball goes straight over his head and that makes him definitively active. The match officials got the decision correct. It was offside.

I noticed on MOTD they stopped it just BEFORE the ball is kicked not AS the ball is kicked.

Classic TP smurking saying he was delighted to get such a tight decision go for us at Anfield ! We are going to say it was offside but we would be mightly gutted if it went against us ? It was borderline for me !

The MOTD presenter (Ray Stubbs?) put Lawrenson in his place last night. Lawrenson, no suprise, said he thought it was a goal and didn't really have much of a come back when read the definition of offside and shown the freeze frame.

It's irrelevant really, some go with you during the season and some don't. For Benitez to make such a big thing of it, shows the complete lack of class of the man.

I watched the match on TV in Norway. Canal Digital has a match studio every Sat and Sunday, and some experts in the studio to comment on highlights and controversial incidents. They take all these situations in slow motion and freeze the picture when needed. They froze the picture when Gerrard hit the ball and there is absolutely no doubt that it is a correct decision, even though it's a close one. Torres is in an offside position when Gerrard knocks it in, and even though he doesn't touch the ball he distracts Sorensen. That is according to the rule enough to rule the goal out. All the experts in the studio also agreed it was the right decision after studying the pictures. ;D

The only concern (and I don't want to be negative on such a great result for us) is we still failed to mark up in the box on the free kick. Albeit it was a great delivery but the marking was still not there? This is an area where we need to sharpen up and then we can really push on with our attitude and approach to any team in this league. C'mon STOKE!!!!!

Exactly what I told a Liverpool fan, after the replay yesterday in a pub in Cyprus and he tried to say he was not interfering with play. We had a bit of an argument but I had the last laugh sang delilah in his face at the end.

To the letter of the law he's off, by what looks like his arm, that picture above is a little deceptive, MoTD did a hawk eye thing on it, and it looks like it's just his arm thats offside, it could have gone either way, the ref claims it was he who disalowed the goal, but there is no way he could have judged the offside from his position .

unbelievably close decision and only an inch in it but it was offside. It doesnt matter how close it was its either one way or the other. If it was the other way around and Stoke had scored the same goal MOTD would have been totally different

Joe-I thought that too but that rule doesn't seem matter these day! Was it an indirect free kick or not?

im not mocking or anything but too be perfectly honest, the ref or linesman have no chance to see the offside.. and for the ref to call it was atrociouss... im obviiosly a die hard stoke fan but you have to sympathyse, as the whole thing would be a different story if it had happend against us. you cant argue with that.
But well played ref anyway haha
