For an optimal Xbox Live experience, your router or gateway must be able to handle a type of Internet traffic known as ICMP port-unreachable traffic. ICMP stands for Internet Control Message Protocol. It's not important to know much about ICMP, but you should be sure that your router or gateway properly handles this kind of traffic. If it doesn't, you won't be able to connect to Xbox Live.
The ICMP test evaluates how your router or gateway will respond to a particular type of ICMP packet. If the test does not indicate Confirmed, your device is not properly handling ICMP packets. Typically this is not a setting you can change, though you may be able to update your device's firmware from the device manufacturer.
To move past this error, take one of the following actions:
* Check to see if you can update your device's firmware from the device manufacturer and retry the test. * Remove your existing router or gateway from your network and use a direct modem connection for Xbox Live access. * Replace your existing router or gateway with a designated Xbox Live Compatible router or gateway.

How do Ive just purchased xbox live but am having problems connecting it When I test the connection the ICMP connection fails Anyone know how I can fix this, not having much luck with it Cheers I kinda know how your feeling even though my XBL is up and running smoothly, I had a few problems at 1st, I am currently with Sky and told them what I was going to be using my 360 online and they sent me the router out and that was it really, in my old house I was with AOL and was informed on numerous forums that I would never get online with my 360 as AOl is shit and also due to my modem router not being compatible, but I phoned them and told them what I was going to be doing and they sent me out a new router and it was easy as 123.... so really I would say just ask your ISP for a new router tell them what you want it for and I am pretty sure you will get a compatible router through the post asap for free as they wont want to lose your custom ! When you up and running friend request me my gamer tag is Jaybarstoke (as below) always on COD4 & PES 2008
