Strange, as you'd think it'd be confirmed on Jan 2nd, along with Cort.
But I don't suppose there's any rush?
Pugh departure boosts Irvine's war chest
By Brian Ellis Preston will bank the best part of £500,000 from the sale of Danny Pugh to Stoke City to boost Alan Irvine's transfer war chest. And, after Tuesday's agreeing an undisclosed fee with Queens Park Rangers for the sale of striker Patrick Agyemang, Preston North End are gathering funds together to hit the January sales.
Pugh, who moved to the Britannia Stadium on loan two months ago, is set to make the switch permanent on January 15 now the transfer window is open.
The fee will give PNE manager Irvine some much-needed finance to bring in reinforcements to mount a rescue mission from relegation.
Pugh's permanent move to Stoke was effectively a done deal when the left-sided player went on loan in November.
It was brokered by former boss Paul Simpson, but could only be ratified once the transfer embargo was lifted.
"Danny will be signing for Stoke on January 15," said Shaw.
"The fee will be £500,000, although there is a bit of a sell-on clause which will benefit Leeds.
"It is guaranteed money and we are happy with that.
"It was a deal that, at the time, Paul was happy to accept. And the money will help us as we try to bring in new recruits."
Pugh had made only six starts for North End this season before he fell out of favour and was shipped out on loan.
The 25-year-old former Manchester United youngster hasstarted all 13 matches for the Potteries club since moving there and has helped Tony Pulis' side up to fourth in the Championship table.
t is understood Leeds have a 15 per cent sell-on clause which means North End will bank £425,000 from the deal when it is completed.
North End are still waiting for an answer from Blackburn boss Mark Hughes about extending the loan of Paul Gallagher until the end of the season.
The striker has returned to Ewood Park while a decision is made

Good news that it is effectively confirmed.
Good signing, but like you say odd that it is only going through on the 15th (presumably the end of the loan deal?)

If the original loan runs until the 15th then the £500k might as well stay in our bank account until then rather than Preston's. Assuming the wages will be similar after the transfer as they are now then there will be a small advantage to us in terms of interest in delaying the deal until the loan runs out.

What loan period did we sign Danny for? He is available until the 15th isn't he?

The loan started on Nov 2nd, so it's unclear why Jan 15th should feature as a completion date for the permanent move?
Don't suppose it really matters though.

I would guess that Stoke want to hold onto their working capital for as long as they could. Who'd want to give Ken "penny in the pound" Bates a penny before absolutely necessary? I'd assume that we are paying his full wages though??

If your a preston fan you'd be pritty miffed, your fighting to stay in the league and sell a player who was considered by the then manager to be a bench warmer, he then moves to a club who are now fourth and are looking good for promotion. I guess thats why Simpson isn't their manager any more.

The loan started on Nov 2nd, so it's unclear why Jan 15th should feature as a completion date for the permanent move? Perhaps the contract of Simpson the old manager (sacked mid november) included some sort of % of sales / profits on player sales and by delaying the sale until the 15th Jan they don't have to pay him ????

4PM UPDATE: PUGH TO COST CITY £500,000 Be the first reader to comment on this story
15:39 - 03 January 2008
Stoke City will fork out £500,000 for Danny Pugh, it was revealed today.Pugh's move from Preston North End will be officially sanctioned on January 15.
But Stoke's chief executive Tony Scholes today confirmed the size of the fee agreed with Preston when Pugh joined City in early November.
The original deal was initially on loan so as to allow Stoke to take delivery of the 25-year-old outside the January transfer window.
Pugh has largely impressed in his 13 games to date after starting off on the left of midfield before switching to left-back for City's next nine outings via one appearance in central midfield.
"His versatility has been a big bonus to the side and helped give us some balance down the left-hand side," said Stoke manager Tony Pulis.
"I have been very pleased with how quickly he's settled in, both on and off the field, to play a part in our 10-match unbeaten run."
Pulis has given his players two days off since the New Year's Day draw with Hull ahead of tomorrow's return to prepare for Sunday's third-round FA Cup clash against Newcastle.
Andy Wilkinson was in for treatment today, however, in a bid to declare himself available for the big match after missing out on Stoke's last one-and-a-half matches with a pulled thigh muscle.

From the BBC website - confirms the 15th
Thursday 3 January 2008 18:37 GMT
Stoke City have completed the permanent signing of Preston winger Danny Pugh for £500,000 after a successful loan spell at the Britannia Stadium. Pugh will officially become a Stoke player on 15 January after agreeing a three-and-a-half-year deal.
The 25-year-old joined the Potters on loan in November and started 13 Championship matches.
Manager Tony Pulis told the club's website: "He's a big part of the team and I'm delighted to tie him down."
Happy with this - at least we have secured someone
