Would he help push us on up front or wide? Is he the type we need?
Looks like he has returned to Blackburn today. Not sure how he's done this season at PNE. But if he could replicate his displays from 2005, would it be worth offering cold, hard cash to Blackburn?
Hughes and Gallagher must realise he has absolutely no future there.
Surely less than £1m would get him.
Could he play the deep-lying striker role in a Pulis side? Probably not.
He wouldn't offer pace from the flanks, and would he graft enough for a Pulis wide man?
Pulis is on record as a Gally fan though, isn't he? And he obviously was in for him in August to fill in on the left??
Has Cresswell's relative success and goal power from there ended any lingering interest?
After admitting he is unsure whether he still has a future at Ewood Park, Gallagher has revealed he would be prepared to extend his stay with North End until the end of the season to play first-team football.
"It's in the hands of Mark Hughes," the 23-year-old told the Evening Post.
"I have got a contract at Blackburn. I will be going back on January 2, but I don't know for how long.
"I don't know how my future lies at the moment. I will just have to take each day as it comes when I go back there."
"But I just want to play football. And if that is not going to be at Blackburn, then hopefully it will be somewhere else – and that is including here as well. I am not one of those people who shy away from a challenge. I have helped Preston get in this situation because I have been here almost from the beginning of the season. And I am willing to help them get out of it.
"Of course I would consider extending the loan to help the team out.
"But if it is not to be then there is nothing I can do. That's up to Mark Hughes.
"If he says I can come back on loan, then I don't see why not. I'd love to stay here."
Gallagher could face a struggle getting back in the frame at Rovers after slipping down the pecking order this season.
After making 22 appearances for the Premier League outfit last year – 17 of them from the bench – he only made the squad twice as an unused substitute in Europe this term, before moving down the road to Preston at the end of August.
Competition for places up front at Ewood has been so intense that even a frontman of the quality of Jason Roberts has started only one Premier League match.
Roque Santa Cruz, Benni McCarthy, Matt Derbyshire, Maceo Rigters and David Bentley have all played up front.

Funny how a player who chooses family security and a lot more money get's slated about the possibility of coming back to us (Griffin) yet people would welcome back someone who chose the easy life of staying local and going to another lower championship club than us.

I'd have them both back. I'm a pragmatist first and foremost - and we need all the good players we can get.

I'd have them both back too, but i think i'd choose Griffin given the choice. Gallagher has hardly took the championship by storm.

We've done better without this 'show pony' rather have gusty muck & bullet players!

But the Gallagher deal was only a loan...is it worth relocating and moving your family for the sake of a loan? Maybe if we offered a permanent deal he'd be more interested? Would love to see him back.

It'd be nice to have another player in the team who could actually make stuff happen.
If he ws actually offered a long-term deal at a club where he believed he had a future, surely he'd be up for a permanent move noe.
And Blackburn don't seem to have any use for him at all.

If we were bringing him to play as a forward then yes. If we were bringing him to play out wide, then no, as I believe there are better natural wide-men out there within our budget.

BLACKBURN boss Mark Hughes insists he is reluctant to sell Paul Gallagher during the January transfer window.
The Scotland international, who could feature in today's third round FA Cup tie with Coventry City at Ewood Park, is being targeted by a club in the Championship after completing a successful loan spell with Preston North End.
But, although the 23-year-old's first-team opp-ortunities would appear to look limited at Rovers, where he is behind Roque Santa Cruz, Benni Mc-Carthy and Matt Derbyshire in the pecking order, Hughes remains a big admirer of the versatile striker, and he would only be willing to let him leave on a permanent basis if he felt it was in the best interests of the club.
The Rovers chief, who insists he has yet to discuss the possibility of selling Gallagher with the Rovers board, said: "I don't think we've come to that point, and we haven't had that conversation as yet.
"I've got a lot of time for Gally because I've got a great admiration for the skill and technical ability that he has got.
"I don't really want to allow that out of the club unless it suits my plans, and I'm able to look at situations that will benefit the club.
"So we are not really looking at that situation regarding Paul as yet.
"But the window is open so who knows what might happen.
"Teams look at players and think there is a possibility they may be able to get them out."
Although Hughes rates Gallagher as one of the most technically gifted players in his first team squad, that talent has not been enough to guarantee the former Academy starlet a regular start during the Welshman's three years in charge.
However, the Rovers chief insists that's mainly due to the calibre of players in front of Gallagher in the pecking order, rather than any deficiencies on the striker's part.
"In the early part of the season, we brought in Roque, and also had Benni, Jason Roberts and Matt Derbyshire as well, so that was the thinking behind letting him go out on loan.," said Hughes "We wanted him to play football and he's a guy who has had experience of going out on loan because he had a spell at Stoke (two seasons ago) as well.
"There's always that balance to be made when you send a player out on loan because, when they come back, they are always that little bit frustrated because they've got used to playing every week.
"So you always have to reassure the player that he still has a big part to play."
