his latest Recently by Chris Lepkowski Gary Megson - remember him? By Chris Lepkowski on August 27, 2008 11:27 AM | Permalink Let's be honest, a game against a Gary Megson side was the last thing Albion needed this weekend. That is a compliment to the way he manages and will set up his Bolton team. But, setting aside the respective form of the two teams, it will be interesting to see what reception the former Albion boss Gary Megson gets from the visitors - and I don't mean from the opposition directors. Megson was once described by a colleague as the Marmite of football managers. Personally, I don't necessarily subscribe to that. His achievements, certainly in his opening four years at the club, will never be diminished. Regardless of his fall-out during the final few months, Baggies fans would undoubtedly be looking at a completely different West Bromwich Albion had it not been for his two promotions. Those will never be taken away from his CV. He was the right man for the Albion job, at precisely the right time. The main criticisms would be that he was far too political and paranoid of those around him, often when he had no reason to be. Had he reigned that in then he might have got a top job long before he did. I had my moments with Gary - there was a period of about six weeks when he didn't speak to me, over a completely trivial matter - but he could also be engaging and intelligent company. And far wittier than people gave him credit for. He told one anecdote about a former manager of his who was so angry and enraged following the team's first-half performance that he cut short the 'formalities' during his half-time toilet visit. The furious gaffer emerged from the cubicle to berate the players, only to be met with a wall of sniggering and chuckling from Megson and co - the poor manager not realising that a wet patch was rapidly spreading across the front of his suit trousers... Imagine what Megson the manager would have made of that? The point is that Megson isn't always the 'angry' man that many associate him to be. Mind you, I can imagine the 2820 Albion fans travelling to Reebok this weekend will be hoping he's more than a little angry come 5pm. In the meantime, I'd be interested to know your thoughts on Megson and this weekend's game... You can read what Jonathan Greening thinks of his former boss in tomorrow's Birmingham Mail. On another note, Albion have been linked with Derek Boateng, with one Israeli source even claiming he would be signing today (Wednesday). Not according to what I've heard. He was watched, some time ago, but that's as far as Albion's interest has gone. Even so, there should be at least two or three new faces arriving before next Monday night's deadline.

I`d like to add ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha,West Brazil take note, playing a passing game only works in the premier league if you`re actually any good at it.Pseudo purists get relegated, team spirit and aaaaaaard work will often see you right!

Maybe he didn't notice us sending the best team in brum away with a bloody nose.
Or that we provided the most entertaining game of the week.
Or that we scored a contender for goal of the season in the process.
He seemingly forgets to pass any comment on his beloved brazillians prefering instead to focus on Mego.

Calm down Chris, most of this thread is only banter, although you do have to chuckle at the irony of it all. You're right there has only been 2 games played and we all know on here that it will be difficult for us as well as you and Hull. However, beating Villa has given us hope and the team confidence, meaning we will be very hard to beat at home. We do get a bit pissed off when some of your fellow supporters come on here claiming us to be a long ball team, especially after Fuller's goal last week. Let's face it if that had been Rooney or Ronaldo or Walcott there would have been a sea of jizz on the MOTD studio. This is further exacerbated by the idiotic and misguided comments of your own Mr Lepowski, who let's face it. wouldn't give Stoke any praise in a million years. We are enjoying our moment, yes, but dont be so foolish as to think we underestimate how hard this season will be.

tbh im shocked at how you think that TWO league games in to the season your saying were shite, If the cap fits - you looked pretty shite to me when the Yak scored and again last night when a Hartlepool player came and took the ball off one of your players and scored. As a Stokie, I found your piss-poor attempts at long-ball against Arsenal cringeworthy (see, we're rather good at that in case you never noticed).i cn see ur happy to have won a game in the premier league, and against good opposition but we beat arsenal and that same year we still went down! That's great! This season, you'll be going down without beating them. ;D ITS ONE FUCKING GAME! i really do hope u gt your arses handed to you on saturday now, and i cant wait to finish above you at the end of the season! How very Kevin Keegan of you! I'd love it etc etc blah blah

So do I Chris, I lived for 17 years in Wordsley/Stourbridge and made good friends with many baggies, the vast majority of you are a decent lot, just like ours. To be fair Chris there was a lot of arrogance from many of your fans last year towards us so you've got to expect a little joy from many a Stokie at Brazils slightest slip up. I don't think it helped your cause when some of your lot were predicting a mid table finish which was nothing short of ludicrous.

To be honest Chris I don't think Stoke or Hull would have gotten anything out of Arsenal and Everton as our 1st two games (maybe a point at home v Everton is we were lucky etc), they were both tough games and anyone can lose to League 1/2 teams in the Carling Cup at this stage (We were all amazed ourselves to beat Cheltenham). Part of it is from crap this board has seen from some West Brom fans etc plus anyone else who's come on and put Stoke and Hull as the new Derby. We've both managed to pick up points and upset a few people so that label unfairly has been passed to you for now. Anyway, there's no chance WBA will do a Derby, sorry but your team is a lot stronger and I expect you to be close to us and Hull come the season end. Some people are just posting it for a reaction as well and it is an internet message board in the end so it's to be expected, some of it is just meant as good nature banter but sometimes it's easy to take it wrong. I think you might get something from the Bolton game this weekend so any Derby comments will some fall away. The season is too early at the moment to really judge anything. I've always had a soft spot for West Brom and I hope you do well this season, maybe all 3 can stay up, but Stoke and Hull have had to deal with a lot more being promoted than West Brom, you're the favorite to stay up and you're a yo-yo team at the moment. It's easy to pick on Stoke and Hull but both have done excellent in the past few weeks (ignoring the 10 minute collapse v Bolton ).

I don't agreee with the above re Everton. They looked very ordinary at West Brom- to be honest was a really poor game and don't see any reason why we can't take something from them. Corner kicks as per usual West Brom always looked like conceding and fancy Bolton to do to them what they did to us.

Maybe I'm wrong, I only caught the highlights of the game but going on the last few years Everton are a top 6 team (with Villa I guess) and on their day are tough to beat. I think a point at home v Everton would be a good result, Yakubu is going to be a handful and Faye will need to be on his game.

Howard; Neville, Yobo, Lescott, Baines; Arteta, Jagielka, Rodwell, Baxter Osman; Yakubu

But in two weeks their problem is clear. They will pass you to death and then give away simple goals at the back, just as happened against Everton. Grab the 2.16 for them to go back down before they become odds on. And while Hull, still 1.47 for the drop, have collected four points in two games they still have a lot of questions to answer - not the least being how well 13 new players will integrate into a squad. Stoke have so far bought quality rather than quantity and look better for it. betting.betfair.com/football/premiership/premier-league-betting-will-stoke-enjoy-more-days-250808.html

Re: Anything Stoke « Reply #694 on: Today at 09:22 » Just for the record and to get this off me chest:
I don't hate every Stokey as that would be silly and some of them should be allowed out every now and again but...... I will be supporting every team that Stoke City plays this season (including Villa) and not just because they may be relegation rivals - they simply don't belong in the Premier League - period."
What a complete arrogant wanker. Still peddling the same shit that they were last season. So after three relegation battles in the Prem (two failed and one the lowest points ever for 4th from bottom) they are high and mighty.
And these shitesters wonder why we have grown to despise them after being a club we used to be social with.
So a founding member of the Football League, the second oldest professional club in the world and one that has spent most of its history in the top flight doesn't belong in the Premier, even though they won automatic promotion??
Well if being in the Premier makes you a condescending arsewipe that believes all the hype, thinks that football only started 15 years ago and that you support your team by just buying a shirt and watching them on Sky then maybe we don't.

West Brom are suffering from the pressure of pre season favourites to avoid the drop out of the three promoted. Hell have got off to a flyer and we look like we can compete and score goals. Brazil look average and worse than last season, mading their task all the more difficult in letting Phillips go and spending all pre-season boinging around believing the hype.

I think they're heading for deep trouble..
They believed their own hype lost two of their best players and have gambled with their signings.
Why the fuck did they spend 3m on Luke Moore after seeing how shit he was on loan??
We would've lynched Pulis if he had shelled that sort of cash out on Ameobi!!

Dave Kitson or Luke Moore? I can only say Moanbary must have been off his tits on something.
Unless they sign some form of goal machine by monday night the hawthorns isn't going to be a happy place this season.
