Based on yesterday's showings i think Ryan is going to have a job getting his centre-back place back, i thought Abdoulaye Faye was man of the match, and i thought Leon Cort had a good game aswell, they both seemed to gel well together.
I thought generally the defence was very good yesterday, i thought Villa's first goal was very good to their credit, however the second goal maybe could have been avoided, generally can't fault the team though, a heroes performance.
I think yesterday showed that Delap's throwings, and launching balls into the box can cause problems for most teams in this league, and Fuller's goal also demonstrated how we can mix our approach and still be successful.

yes might have to be like the back end of last season now and wait for an injury but that's how it is, you need a big squad and you cant please everyone, he is only young though and will get better, he may play well enough when he gets his chance to keep his place

I think there goal was a complete fluke in the sense that you cant practice against duffed free kicks like that, I still think Shawcross will get his place back, but I think Cort has proved himself a more than able replacement

You dont see many 20 year old central defenders in the Prem do you.
Ryan is already a very good player, and a great prospect, I do think he may have benefited from another season in the championship, but hopefully playing at this level he will learn quickly and fulfill his potential

The defence looked sound on Saturday and all credit to them, but with Davies and Shawcross desperate to get selected it can only be good pressure on everyone fighting for a first team place. perform or you're out. Can't be bad.

Ryan can sit on the bench, watch and learn. His chance will come again with injuries, suspensions and hopefully cup matches. Definitely one for the future and I do expect him to have a few starts in the PL this season.

I don't think it'll do Ryan any harm to start on the bench for a few weeks, although it might be a different story if he's still out of the picture halfway through the season. Leon was as good as I've ever seen him against Villa and I'd almost say the same about Griff, so I can see Tone settling for that back four for a while rather than tinkering.

Top lad, Ryan, but TP has to try to find his best combinations around the field, and on Saturdays evidence, he seems to have sorted something out.

I can see us playing 5 across the back occasionally, against teams with with big forwards...Wigan and Portsmouth for example, he'll get his chance. Meanwhile he should watch and learn.

Shawcross on current ability is way overrated in comparison to Cort, it was proved against Bolton when both played and also this week when Shawcross didn't. Give Shawcross time and he could become an exceptional defender for us but I think that Cort should play about 75% of the games this year.

I reckon the lad from Southampton will be straight in at right back and Griff moved to left back as soon as possible. Griff looks more comfortable on the left than right imo and Dicko despite having a good game yesterday will be forced to wait a little while longer

Ryan is young and learning. He will get 10 -15 games this season and lear a lot form the likes of A D Faye. Has time on his side.
