If you'd asked me last Christmas I wouldn't have had any doubt that Ryan could do it in the Prem, in the long term I still believe he will but is he going to do it in the short term, when it really matters to us? Hope so, but I'm wondering. I wasn't at Bolton, how badly was he struggling?

i didnt think he was completely out of his depth, just a little nervy early on and some terrible marking for the 2nd and 3rd goals.
obviously being a youngster he was effected by the occasion more than cort for example - but i still think he's a better defender than cort and will come good after a few games.

If Pulis is chasing Hyypia/Higginbotham, I suppose you'd have to bet that his preferred partnership come September will be Faye and the new guy.
And with Davies, who seems a better CB than RB, Shawcross, and Cort all in reserve, we certainly should have most bases covered at centre-half...

He will deliver. An England defender in the making.

Rightly or wrongly it is Shawcross not Cort who will be making way at the center of defence tomorrow.
We will also be using a left footer (Dicko) at left back. Hoorah!

I hope Griffin has one of his finer days cos on his current form him alone will make us lose by 3

don't think Cort or Shawcross are good enough for the Prem
enjoyed their goals but they were reponsible for us letting far too many goals in last season
the full backs have too often taken stick for their incompitence

shawcross will do well to establish himself as a solid Premier League defender. He simply doesnt have the experience.
Im hoping Faye will give us a bit more solidity.

Last week the whole defence looked out of their depth. Like startled rabbits in headlights before a lorry crushes the fluffy bushy tailed buck toothed phuqqa.

I never criticise a player in isolation. With 2 shit full backs any centre back will struggle to perform. Add to that playing 4-4-2 away from home in our prem debut, against a team playing a similar style. Give him a decent full back to work along side and he will grow in confidence.
