www.sportingo.com/football/a10000_play-it-by-book-paddy-give-stoke-city-chanceApologies if already posted, but I'm not going through pages and pages of stuff. Wheel away if needed......... best bit: "I was verbally attacked by Pulis and one of his minnions outside the Press room at Bolton after the game when they overheard a telephone conversation I was having with my boss on the People sports desk. He was asking me to name a ''shocker'' from the game - someone who had an absolute nightmare. I was struggling a bit, under pressure and was not 100 per cent sure of my decision when I named Stoke's new striker Dave Kitson as the unfortunate recipient. 'Dave Kitson, Dave Kitson! How do you make that out?' came the cry from behind me. I turned to see Mr Pulis and his escort, resplendent in suits, white shirts and bold red and white striped Stoke City ties, staring goggle-eyed at me with more than a hint of fury. Alarm bells immediately strated ringing and I thought to myself, ''Careful here Botty lad, this is a VERY tricky one''. I managed to talk my way out of a further slagging from either of them by prattling on about marks we give to the players - basicslly not letting them get a word in edgeways before Mr Pulis was ushered in to address my colleagues. I followed seconds later with my tail tucked quite firmly between my legs!

Pulis is hardly likely to point the finger at his favourite boy Griff though, is he?

It sounds as though TP maybe feeling the pressure a little more than we thought....
I don't think he expected to be put under the cosh by Bolton, hence his reaction.

"Struggling a bit"?! Then why say it in the first place?! He means he was f'ing making it up otherwise he'd have been sure of his facts FFS! He looks like he used to break into houses. Probably learned "journalism" in the nick. "Freelance" ie. "between proper jobs".

I wonder whether he would have had the guts to call one of Fergusons staff, a ,'minnion'? Just another pr ick to be ignored.

It does make you laugh though.
He is supposed to have watched 90mins of football, claims that Stoke are going back to the Championship after one game, yet he cannot name a player that he thought had a shocker. He in fact picks one of the only players to come out of the game with any positives!
If this is being a 'journalist' then bollocks to them all!

A man gets paid very well to report on football and when asked a simple question 'did anyone have a shocker?' he was struggling! He is obviously very VERY poor at his job and frankly if he is paid to report on a match and he has absolutely NO IDEA what went on the question has to be asked how the fook can this guy not be sacked for gross incompetence?

How do you know he gets paid very well? If he is just freelancing for a national newspaper at a game he almost certainly doesn't. Pulis' attitude towards the guy was pathetic - if the account is true - no wonder the club's PR is so bad.

exactly the attitude which gives our club a bad name

Why?
The guy is paid to watch a game of football and then give his opinion on what he saw. He did a shit job, made no effort to research who our players are and then preceeded to try and cover himself up but got found out.

Pulis is already known for ducking interview requests. He can only make it worse by starting a row with someone who is just doing his job (whether you/we like what he is doing or not). No-one ever made themselves popular in the media by promoting a them and us siege mentality. Judging by this board, we supporters haven't got any uniform view of what makes a good team so how do you expect someone who watches Stoke once in a blue moon to come up with anything better? I remember the gentlemen of the press being impressed by one Keith Scott on his debut! And some of our supporters labour under the misbelief that Sidibe can cut it in the Premiership!

exactly the attitude which gives our club a bad name Absolutely. There's a significant yet vociferous minority (if you'll pardon the phrase) whose teeth start to grind and eyeballs start to roll if someone in the press so much as suggests we might be relegation favourites (which of course we are). Some of the naive indignance that's been flying about on here about Paddy Power is just embarrassing...opposition wind-up merchants must think they've struck gold the way that Stokies bite at the slightest insult. We just need to keep our cool and rise above it - that's how we can make it work for us, not by sending ourselves into a blind rage every time some hack gives one of our players a 4/10.
