Fans Forum interviewed some Bolton fans after the game and the responses are on the Fans Forum website under "In The Boardroom" I have censored the swearing but I have left all the comments in - even the stupid ones Many people mentioning the impact Abdoulaye Faye will have on the team both in defence and up front as part of our set pieces. A lot of different sets of fans rate him so could be a bargain and £2.25m One question that was asked was the perception of the away fans (meaning following and volume) and most of them mentioning some minor trouble or intent to cause trouble. One of the guys we contacted was the editor of the fanzine and he mentioned some minor skirmishes. To be honest I didnt see any trouble at all - I walked all the way around the ground speaking to both sets of fans and everyone seemed to be mingling OK. I did notice the police mid-way through the second half but I was in the top tier and couldn't see properly Although pointless asking fans where they think we will finish, we are going to ask everyone that and try and build a picture of opinions as the season progresses Interview responses

Fair enough comments I think. We need to defend better is the lesson from yesterday and was something most of us more realistic fans realised weeks ago!

By the sound of a lot of different fans from different teams - Abdoulaye Faye will go some way to doing that
Whilst I think Andrew Davies will make a difference I think yesterday showed our naivety in defense and we need some Premiership experienced defenders in there and a natural winger to replace Cresswell
Personally I cannot see much part for Griffin in this league. He was exposed in a poor Derby team and whilst he had one or two moments he was poor considering he was captain as well

I like Faye and think he will be a good addition. I'd like to see Davies at centre back with him (he has Prem experience too 50+games for Boro) and 2 new full backs. If TP persists with Griifn alot of fans feelings towards both will sour and sadly it could get ugly. I don't think TP will drop him though that was evident last year where it took an injury. Added to the fact he's on a 4 year sodding contract and is captain!

I thought the same about Griff when I saw the new squad numbers and saw he was still captain
What happened to Shawcross - He was wearing 50 in the first half and 51 in the second - has he got 2 squad numbers!!
TP says that he will only bring in players who are better than what we have - I think we can easily find a fringe prem or established championship fullback at the right price that is better than Griff

We do have some brain dead followers - They are not 'Fans' and will continue to give the club a bad name if it continues!! - One lad by us was that pissed he wanted to fight with anyone!

Same comment to me about Faye. A Bolton fan who I know says they wish they had gone in for him as he's a cracking player.

Don't want to come over all sanctimonious, but what is the point of getting so pissed to be incapable of watching the match, whilst threatening to fight all & sundry?

What happened then swampy - like I say I didnt see anything outside the ground - I saw the police in the second half but as I was in the upper teir I couldnt see what was going on In the lower tier the fans were segregated by about 4 seat widths with plenty of stewards. When Bolton went 2/3 up they started taking the piss so naturally there was a lot of "friendly banter" which eventually turned a bit sour but didnt go beyond gestures and threats (from both sides). The stewards were always in control. Didnt see anything outside although if you read the post from Ben2004 you do wonder what some people were up to. Generally though for Bolton to place the blame on Stoke is a little bit convenient And as for their views on our team ask them again when they've been to the Brit and hopefully we have a full side out. From what I saw of them yesterday that game will definitely be one that we should get the 3 points from.

"You seem to playing very similar to the way we played when we got promoted, long and direct, with plenty of muscle in the team. The only problem is, you don't really have anyone in your team that can make nothing into something. We've been lucky enough to have the likes of Okocha, Le God, Hiera, Campo, Anelka and now Elmander all of which can and have turned games with a moment of brilliance. If Stoke are going to play this way, you need to have a balance of strength and ablilty, and you have to get the balance right. Stoke were very poor at the back and unpenatrating up front." - SWA
I'd go along with every word of that, saddly.

What about the magic of fuller, kitson (a partnership that will grow with time) and lawrence; not to mention the throw of rory delap. Bolton fan I spoke to after the game said he thought we will stay up. I thanked him for his optimism, but couldn't for the life of me understand how he worked that one out from yesterday's performance. (Still it's very early days yet. Go on Stoke!).

I think the biggest message, aside from the match, was the fact the perception of our club was diminished by a minority of dickheads. I know a lot of you don't bother what others think of our club, but I for one do. I love our club and don't want our name to be continually tarred with the brush that we used to have. We have made huge steps forward on this front, but reading between the lines this is very much frowned upon in the prem, almost as if they are above it. Let us rise above it.

What did nearly every comment talk about? - our defence. i think it will take until about Liverpool (A) to get sorted, but once we do, i think we can do it. The midfield and forwards can hold there own!. Sort out the defence and get simmo back in goal!

Its always interesting to get what seemed to be a decent objetcive view from others....although it didnt tell us anything we dont already know....the comments about Faye are encouraging and I was surprised that a couple liked Oli...i wasn't so sure. Worryingly was the perception of our fans...please anybody who knows these people have a word...the Premier league is nothing but media hyped around the world...any news is big news for lazy journos...we want to attract quality players and new fans during this season otherwise we will have wasted a golden opportunity

Its a shame that some of our "fans" manage to spread the "good name" of our club yet again, especially visiting a club like Bolton, a place and team that we have a lot of in common with, I used to live near Bolton and shared some good craic with their fans, who were always ready to share decent perspectives and comments about our teams' relative performances.
