Mine was checked by a Stoke steward outside gate 1.
ID cards won't stop someone intent on fighting travelling and having a ruck with the local knuckle-draggers will it ??? It will help prevent trouble inside the ground (most of the time) - only recall seeing 2 locals being dragged past the front of the stand to a rousing "time to go....." ;D

Winge. I'd love to know what would happen if you pitched up to the steward and told him your young lads card hadn't come yet. Would he really turn you away?

The cards are a joke.
We were lucky enough to have an old stoke player with us from the 50's yesterday who is visiting from abroad. (I won't say who it was).
Apparently, he called the box office to buy a ticket and they asked him if he had an away card. He said no as he's visiting the country for the first time in a long time but would love to see the game. He said he used to play for stoke and if he brought his passport as proof could they do him a letter to show the stewards to allow him in.
Shockingly, he was told no. He had to have an away card.
So he sat in the Bolton End with us.
hmmmm
Forward 50 years from now...
I used to play for stoke but live abroard and don't have an away card. Can I go to an away match? I'm sorry Mr Fuller, you need an away card.

What happens if you get turned down for an ID card? Do they notify you, or just not get one? Has anyone been turned down for one? (I've never heard anyone say they have) Answers on a postcard please....

The sad fact of the ID Card fiasco is that 95% of past and present hooligans, N40 etc have got a kosher card. By far the largest group of people who are prevented from attending away games, are people who have never been in trouble but due to a political stance or other views, will not apply for a card, a fact that should shame both The Club and The Fans Forum. I believe Saturdays troubles go some way to proving 'the above'.

i always show my id card at no extra effort, as i have to open my wallet to take my match ticket out and there in one of the pockets of my wallet with the plastic window is my id card, i doubt they look at the picture, more the card itself, i suppose they see that many they know that it is the id card. banburybeys photo looks nothing like him now but he gets in okay. as far as preventing trouble, it will if the offender is arrested and his card taken off him as he will be 'red striped' by the club and will not be able to get tickets as it will be on their computer at the club.

If anyone is arrested and convicted they are banned from all games anyway, what difference does an ID card make?

I STILL don't see what peoples problem is with the ID cards, I've had one since they were first introduced and as banburypotter says it's no extra effort to show it when you go in. Maybe people with issues with them have got something to hide, I certainly haven't and if it means less trouble in the ground I'm all for them!! Can't say I've seen much (if any trouble in the away end at grounds since they've been introduced. Obviously they're not going to prevent d*******s travelling to the game and causing trouble away from the ground but at least it doesn't happen inside. We have already got a poor reputation as fans with other clubs/media, removing the ID cards will see a return back to the bad old days, something we don't want, especially given the media coverage of the Premier League.

They bring ridicule and shame on law abiding people
They bring ridicule and shame on Tony Scholes
They bring ridicule and shame on Peter Coates
They bring ridicule and shame on the the Fans Forum
And as our very own Malcolm Clarke is the grand fromage of the FSF and the supporters of his club are being senselessly abused like no other supporter in the country, they bring ridicule and shame on him and his toothless organisation.

As a revenue stream for the club, shouldn't they bump up the prices for the premier league? 25 quid woudn't be too much to ask and it would ease the fight over tickets for away games.

We must have well over 20,000 ID card holders now = £200,000+.
Surely it would be more cost effective to employ an intern on basic salary to do this job which I doubt would cost more than £12,000 per year.
It really does make you wonder where the money is going ???

No problem with them other than:
1. They're taking 8 weeks to process when the club site says 14 days. Considering people are paying for the service they should have prepared for the inevitable deluge of applications and got some temps in to process them.
2. There's no mechanism for people visiting from outside stoke/the country to be given, say, a day pass (even if you're an ex Stoke player!). Unless you know someone associated with the club to get you on a guest list.
3. They don't really seem to take them off the trouble makers.
4. If they're designed to keep the bad boys away from games, why don't they have to be shown at home games?
5. Why should little kids need to have them?
6. Why not issue them automatically to season ticket holders?
Apart from that, I think they're good.

The I.D cards are another way for opposition stewards, police etc,to give Stokies in the ground a hard time. Banburry potter will testify to that after he had his taken off him at Southampton, and he ,s a pussycat who would never start trouble! It,s a big stick for the powers that be to say "Do this or we,ll tke your card off you!" When it comes down to it they actuall mean nothing at all. At Wolves last season the old bill were manhandling us(unusual for W.Mids police I know) When I said to the Inspector "we,ve all got away cards you know?" his answer was " Idont give a fuck ,now move!!" S.C.F.C use them so they can say that they,re doing everything they can to combat our "hooligan" element..
