Ashtons unlucky to be injured AGAIN. He must be closing in on who'll start in Zagreb. Will he ultimately go for the Owen Heskey partnership up front? What do you reckon?

He's not match fit for this but I reckon he'll go for that in Zagreb.

Can't understand why Bent hasn't been called up to try him out, after all it is only a friendly and didn't he score 12 goals in 6 in pre season?

Does anybody actually care about England anymore ?
I for one -do not (with utmost respect)
NO DOUBT they will be great in meaningless friendlies and' when it really counts
- completely 'bottle it'
for - they always do !
my footballing thoughts presently remain 100% focussed upon Stoke City
and I fully expect our superhuman, super talented, super rich england 'heroes' to quietly qualify without fuss or difficulty
-after all - they are superbeings - aren't they ?

Well I do. As for bottling it IMHO they don't. What happens is they simply aren't as good as their opponents a lot of the time and get done over by the better team.

But they are supermen - £35million pounds for a 5 year contract - ( Frank Lampard)
well for that - he should just walk through 'Johnny Foreigner' all on his own ?
shouldnt he ?

Not necessarily. The English approach to the game doesn't mean well rounded flexible players. Thats culture driven as opposed to wages sports cars and the usual things people point to.

I find it very easy to support both Stoke and England. Why some people consider this too strenuous I do not know.

Strange how anybody can be negative about their national team on one hand, and moan like a premenstral bird if you dare to criticise any aspect of the club on the other ??? I don't like our performances as a nation, but i'm still English.

If Owen plays, then it should be Heskey up front with him. They have a good partnership and it was starting to work before they both got injured last year.

We don't have any world class goal scorers anymore. Manure seem to have coached out Rooney's predatory side; he only does the spectacular. The Linekers & Greaves have not appeared in our generation. Michael Owen? Pains me to say, but he's Burnt out.
Or... 60's= Greaves 70's= Keegan 80's= Lineker 90's= Owen 00's= NOWT 10's= Even MORE NOWT cos of the Prem.

Thing is Owen has always been very productive when partnered by Heskey. I know he looks ungainly and us a bit awkward BUT its a football team not a beauty contest.
