When he came on today he really did take the game by the scruff of the neck and show some SCFC spirit and determination, he apitimises what we are all about and where's his heart on his sleeve every time he put's on a potters jersey and shows the character needed to stay in this league.
Griff should be nowhere near the frst team squad but as he is captain at present he will be going nowhere fast people.
WE NEED TWO FULL BACKS AND QUICK!!!

I agree with all of that Cilla. Lawrence might not be your traditional captain but in terms of the impact he has on our game there is no one better suited to the job. He has the advantage that he deserves his place whenever he is fit - the same cannot be said of Griffin.

Is three for the price of one better than a BOG off offer?

Have some Karma for that one Cilla. I've thought that for months now. You can't have a captain who: 1.) is in the remote corner at Full Back 2.) is not that vocal 3.) doesn't lead by example 4.) just isn't good enough.
You need a captain who everyone can look to for confidence and inspiration. When things are going well the captain it's irrelevant but when things go badly is when a captain is so important. Unfortunatley for Griff he's neither inspirational or good enough anymore and he certainly doesn't 'appear' to be full of confidence.
It's time to cut the chord on him now Tone. I like the bloke but he just isn't good enough anymore. Your captain shouldn't be someone who even most of the team probably think he shouldn't be on the pitch. I fear that as he's captain he'll keep his place for longer and could eat away at our confidence.
Lawrence on the other hand has the ability to perform in the prem, can be inspirational but most importantly has confidence in bucket loads. That rubs off on the rest of the players and that is what we looked like we were missing yesterday until our 2 'big boys' came on towards the end.
Plus we all know occasionally Lawrence has an 'over excitement' problem hehe. The captain's armband would probably keep this in check.

Boy was I depressed after that.

Good call, cilla. We know he runs all day, and he's not short on gob. We wouldn't lack in effort with LL bossing the show.

Good shout and with him being captain he is able to talk to the ref without getting booked as happened last season. And yes get rid of Griff, hes had his day.

Good shout, a good option when Griff gets the inevitable chop (surely).

I don't think we need a captin who gets booked twice in 10 seconds for mouthing at a referee, personally.
Although he's our second best player, I feel he's a bit too self-loving to be a captain. To be honest, looking at yesterday's team, I feel that picking a captain who will play over 75% of matches is almost impossible.
We don't just need new players, we need leaders just as much. I'd take a Taggart-like, 30 plus but knows the game, centre half please. Followed by two full backs and a left midfielder.
This is not something new. We knew we needed full backs and a left midfielder two months ago. Not to have got them is criminal and we will be playing catch-up again as they need to gel.
In truth we need the TP from 3 years ago - someone who puts the greater emphasis on keeping a clean sheet. A back four of Shawcross, Cort, Griffin and Wilkinson is quite scary.

Of the players at the club at present then Lawrence, Kitson and Delap are the three who stand out. Maybe Kitson is the man - he talks sense and doesn't get booked as much as Lawrence.

I like a captain either at CB or MC, to be at the heart of things; so as well as Delap, Ab Faye (if he lives up to his billing), he should also be in with a shout. Though might be a bit soon to make him the-man just yet?
And, "keeping up players' spirits" might mean few people play game-in-game-out, so maybe a club-captain (Griffin) and a match-day captain would be the way to go?
We are certainly short of leaders; there didn't seem to be too much talking at all yesterday

Lawrence would be my pick for the captain, it would be a similar move as to when Beckham took the England armband.
Liam seems now to be growing up on and off the pitch (settled family life with a child.) He does take the game by the scruff of the neck and wouldn't be afraid to offer words to fellow players.
Liam for captain!

We need players who can keep the ball. At this level you just cannot keep giving the ball away cheaply.

I agree he really seems to rally the lads and has the abilitity to make things happen a great example is cov away last year if we had lost that game this year would probably be a different story

Liams energy is exactly what is needed in this situation, you could see when he and Ric came on that the spirit was lifted throughout the side, this I think is down to the energy and attitude they have, always wanting the ball. Griffin can't hack it at all and I think re-signing him was a bit of a mistake in the end to be honest, he hasn't performed since he returned at all.

i agree completely, griffing can't be a captain when he makes the mistakes and is as slow as he is. Yes he has the experience of the prem, but think lawrence does too and he is more than capable of performing in the prem and will be a great man motivator.
