And like many very disappointed, first half i think we can all agree the defence was a shambles, and far to stretched, and bolton's extra bit of pace and quality finished us off before half-time. The need for full-backs to bought to me seems even more alarmingly apparent, and despite at times us playing some decent passing football, i felt we were far too one-dimensional overall. I was sat with the bolton fans, in the south stand just next to the stokies, and i was so desperate to join in the singing, the fans were excellent, and i only wish i could've got a ticket in with the stoke fans. Anyway...i think we can all see the issues in the side, and i think today showed that little bit of extra depth and quality is needed. But let's not get down-hearted guys n gals, 37 more games to go, and i still firmly believe we have what it takes to beat the drop despite todays vibes not being great. Onwards an Upwards...Role on Villa.

We must have been close together on the M6 Luke. Full backs were, as you say, a shambles - quite why they each played on their "worst" side escapes me. Cresswell is no winger and it showed. We (Dicko?) put in one decent cross all afternoon and scored from it!
First goal was a fluke - I'll need to see it again on MOTD to see if Sorensen was wrongly positioned. Second two goals were shocking marking from free kicks - isn't that what we are supposed to do to the opposition?
Positves are: Liam and Ricci changed the aspect of the game when they came on. Dicko looked sound - at least sounder at left back than Wilko.
TP must surely see that he still needs two full backs, a left winger and (if possible) another striker as I don't think Pericard or Parkin would have covered themselves in glory today. I'll assume that the second Faye and the lad from Southampton will give us added class in the middle of the back four.
I'll be PMing you and Barrowboy over the weekend.

Sorensen had NO chance with that goal, total luck, high and dipped into the top corner, someone has the goals posted on the link if you can find it.

Cheers, I was right above it (on the back row) so I didn't get a decent look at the flight of the ball. I'm glad Sorensen didn't have a chance. It was one of those fluky crosses which you just love when your team scores from them.

Wilkinson played to try and get Davies out of the game. That was Bolton's only tactic - get it to Davies and get him to win it. If you can't stop him, you can't stop Bolton. We picked Wilkinson as the more verstaile one out of him and Dickinson and probably just hoped that Davies would be on the right so Wilkinson could be on the right and Griffin on the left. As it happened, Wilkinson made a real balls out of marking Davies and we lost 3-1.

PLP - until their first (fluky) goal I'd say we were giving as good as we got. After that we fell apart a bit.
The biggest difference was that all their back 4 looked competant. 2 (and possibly 3) of ours didn't.
Like I said above, even though the game was over and Bolton were coasting, Liam and Riccy changed our game completely. If they had been fit enough to start it could have been a different story - but we have to get more players in the squad who are as good as Liam and Riccy.

I suppose the fact that the bloke who scored their third goal cost 10 million quid, when our whole team cost 12 mill.
Don't tell me spending cash means fuck all.

I'm sure spending cash does make a difference but that goal was more down to the lack of decent marking than anything.

Yes, spending money on someone who can mark properly. H

from pitchside i felt we were ok until their lucky forst which knocked us a bit. After 60 mins Wilkinson was breathing heavier than i do during a 5-a-side, he really did look knackered.
I have been informed by a stoke based photographer who goes out locally that the players have been out on the town every saturday on the sauce.
If true then today may serve as a notice for them to STOP. You just cannot do it in the prem. |End of
I dont think we disgraced ourselves we just were nieve at times.

Agree totally with all of the above.Especially the fact that Liam and Riccy DO have that extra quality we need, even though Bolton were coasting by the time they were introduced.Three or four new signings of that standard are a must if we are hoping to survive...i think we all know which areas of the team need improving...TP included...i just hope to fook we can get them in

Marking players is a fundamental part of football , especially when we are under the cosh. Leaving players that you are meant to mark because you start ball watching is poor. I can understand being outpaced or outskilled by better players, but being distracted by ball watching is unprofessional and needs addressing.
