We unexpectedly make the premier league and some on here expect us to compete for top players.
Its obvious its going to be hard to attract players.
If we go after top players then many will turn us down FACT.
If we dont go after them people moan .
For fucks sake weve waited 20 odd years to get back and some people are still moaning .
For fucks sake get behind your team enjoy what will be and stop fucking moaning.
RANT OVER

RANT OVER You are in good spirits that the players we currently have, including Anthony Pulis, Vincent Pericard, Lewis Buxton, Jon Parkin are good enough to keep us up then yeah? Put aside Kitson, Shawcross, Whelan, Delap, Lawrence and Fuller. Ill enjoy us being in the Premiership, one thing I wont enjoy is if we get battered each week, before anyone says Im moaning Im not!, I just want to see my club do well in this league and give it a go. Theres no fun if you get beat week in and week out, just ask Derby. Again not saying we will, I admire peoples patience. GOARNNN

Well said Kevkj.
We should enjoy this season and if we do go down then so what, we will defo go straight back up. This will be a masive learning curve this year but we have done the hard work of getting that first promotion nailed.
Some dicks on here want us to spend millions as if we are fooking AC Milan - we need to build this season for the future and financially dont fook up.
Just enjoy it me owds!

yes but everyone thinks that its easy to buy the right player IT ISNT AND WOULD YOU WANT US TO DO A BRADFORD i think not i would rather we spent little than spent alot on overpaid players and if we do go down go down fighting with effort and still be in a position moneywise to build the squad again PERSONALLY I DONT THINK WE WILL BE RELEGATED IF WE SIGN A DECENT CENTRE HALF AND LEFT BACK

I don't think anyone expects us to sign 'TOP PLAYERS'. But we would like to see some average Prem players brought in, or top Championship players. I expect we will at some point, but peoples expectations after 23 years are rightfully high and no one would have expected us to be dragging our heels over players when we have only 4 days left until our first top flight game. Surely after all this time we want to make a good fist of it and if we don't get the right players in soon we could be right in the shit.

Point is though Kev we've waited 20 odd years to get here and i don't think its an over-statement to say this is a once in a lifetime opportunity (for some of us anyway), how sick would we all feel if it was 1 season and how many people including the management at stoke would be thinking and saying "if only we spent another 2 (?) million we could have survived). I'm not pissed off about the zigic transfer as much as others but do feel that players should have been in place by now as this is the purfect time to snatch 3/6/9 points (and god knows we will need them) while other teams are unsettled. You probebly know as well as i do that when a player has'nt trained with his squad it takes 2 or 3 matches for him to get back into sharpness and thats someone who has been in the squad for years ! we need the most positive start we can get and if that means having Non international players in the squad so be it.

s7oke see you say that maybe if we sign a centre half and a left back we may not go down, but the fact is have we been linked to any of those positions in the past week or so?Our team is far from ready and alot will agree but the one thing we will do is fight and battle to stay up.Signings we have maybe had abit of bad luck but i for one dont expect to see more than 1 maybe two before the bolton match.

we are not trying to sign "top" players. We are not even trying to sign "middle" players. We are trying to sign reserves and cast offs from the fringes of big Prem clubs, and unknown quantities from foreign leagues. A squad of gutsy tryers are going to get their arses kicked every week. Personally, I wont enjoy seeing that, because I have invested emotionally as well and financially in folowing Stoke, I am proud to support my local team and I want them to reflect my pride by not getting a 6-0 cocking every week, and to avoid that, we need quality players, even if they are foreign, or have a potential attitude problem, if they were proven premiership "clubmen", then they wouldnt be coming to us. So we have to take some risks and show some initiative to earn the right to stay up, The pride and the passion come as a given.

I think the team spirit is massive and when your backs against the wall most weeks it will be vital. What we have is a fantastic team spirit who will fight week in week out - personally i think signing to many premiership quality players could rock the boat so to speak. Quality not quantity. Pulis knows quality players who will work at this level and who we can afford\persude to come to Stoke.

Team spirit doesnt keep you up in this league tho does it.Its a whole diffrent ball game and you need quality and heart.

Personally i dont think we would get dicked 6-0 every week with our best eleven out.
Possibly withe the fringe players .
Im confident we will have a couple by Saturday and definitely 5-6 by the end of august.
Once players realise they are not getting a game come late August ala Harewood etc they will move .

Agreed pointy.
What we dont need though is flash bastards who dont fit in with our team spirit aka Bangoura scenario. Players atitude is vital.

I wouldnt bring in flash bastards if i were pulis but what we need is players who can move the ball about well and keep posession instead of long throws and high balls. We havnt got the players who can play the ball on te deck and keep it.

Like who?
Not a good idea to change your game - Pulis does not play that way and his team reflects that. Just because we are premier does not mean we are going to start passing Arsenal style overnight. It will be ugly next season and not liquid football but who cares? It worked last year.

I'm worried about our defence! I mean look at it! Delap Cort Shawcross Griffin
It would struggle in the Championship. Cort and Griffin aren't good enough and if we're being honest Delap will struggle. We need 4 defenders asap. Oh and if Cresswell starts on the left that will show how weak our team and squad are.

Agreed Kev. I'm really proud of the way we stuck it out last season and went up. I'm also happy Pulis and the staff at SCFC are using the Prem as an opportunity to develop our resources sensibly. The stadium refurb looks absolute quality, and the pitch looks to be the best I've ever seen at Stoke. As for the team, I know as much as anyone that we need more quality. I am totally of the opinion that we should not sign uncommitted players, regardless of their reputations. 1 committed player is more than 5 prima donnas who only think of themselves; i.e. Charisteas, Zigic & Fulop. I'm with you all the way SCFC. Don't listen to the knockers! edit: PS. We could waterlog the pitch like we did in the 70's to make it hard for the twinkle-toes superstars

Good point Bayern. I'm mightily impressed with Villa signing Shorey, Young & Friedel for 10 million combined. Christ, they will be the buys of the season... edit: Dang - Villa just signed Cuellar for 7.8m. They've just bought a whole new quality defence for under 20m. Pulis would have been proud of that!!

We need to enjoy it, but be aware that even with the parachute payment, it might not be as easy to come back up.
We all know just how poor the Championship was last season.

Everyone seems to be getting a bit edgy!! These are exciting times, and we all want Stoke to do themselves and us justice. But pick out the key words: "everyone" and "all".
Nobody at Stoke City is saying we're the finished article. If we're frustrated, think how Tony Pulis feels. He's got to try and pick up points in August without the squad he would have preferred.
But let's look at this objectively. Our main aim this season is survival. We cannot be relegated in August.
We should know how the transfer market works now. Everything gets compressed until the end of the window, as agents and players hold out for the best deal. That's just how it is.
We will get more new players in August, and probably another 1 or 2 in January. The signings so far have been good, and we are definitely looking at the right kind of players.
Like last season, we're going to have to nick points until the squad is better. This will obviously be harder in The Premier League than the Championship.
Football, like life is not perfect. We have to be realistic and deal with it.
Kev's right - we're in the big league. Let's enjoy it, watch our team develop, and hope that we can stay up this season and build some more.
