Tone seems to have placed a priority on finding experienced Prem players.Hi likes his experienced players and I understand this as its a safe option...player who has already performed in the Prem last season would add some great experience. But if you really analyze whats available it isnt much at our price level...and the liklihood is that another more established prem club would sign him. So its no surprise really that only Sorensen has made such a move. Looking at the deals done already more than 50% are from overseas and another 30% are from Uk outside the prem...so very few moving from one prem club to another...not sure if this is the norm or whether you see a huge upsurge of prem to prem transfers nearer the start of the season. So most clubs included the lower tier prem sides have bought from overseas and champs or below....presumably its easier and cheaper to persuade them to come to the prem. This strategy is much more of a gamble and TP seems reluctant to do this.....waiting patiently for his man. I hope he proves me wrong...otherwise we will be looking enviously at the likes of Cech, Mendy,Halmosi,Elmander Muamba and Kapo....all of who would have been realistic targets but have gone to our relegation competitors. Still time of course but any of the above would have improved Ant jnr Buxton Pericard etc etc...

Don't question Tony Pulis.
I know you could do a far better job - but Pulis will get his men.
So stop moaning until the Bolton game please.
PLEEEEAAAAASE.

To be fair Bogdan, you've just labeled his prospective £1m+ signing, Austin, as "not the answer in our first season" You're not questioning His Toneship, are you?

No. I'm questioning why they battled for an unproven player for 18 months - when it was obvious it would be to no prevail. I have no doubt that Pulis will sign players who'll give us a big chance of staying up, Austin would've been no more than a bench warmer.

I think he may be finding it a little more difficult than he first anticipated and he has had a supply line cut off with Sunderland too

Why can't we question him? Because he's just got this club in to the premiership for the first time - and yet fans still believe they can do a far better job . He needs 100% this year. For once.

He is but being a bunch of yes man to everything he does is a bit silly imo. No booing or any of that shit I agree but if he makes a wank decision or anything I'm going to comment and just because he got us promoted doesn't mean he's free from criticsm that's pathetic.

I for one am delighted that the supply line from Blunderland is cut off. Picking up Keanos cast offs after his raid on Spurs didn't appeal at all. That probably the reason hes so upset -he saw Stoke as a dumping ground after his own spending spree

just because he got us here doesn't give him a divine right i think that pulis may be way out of his depth with quality player you find in the prem rather than the put a shift in player like cresswell Pugh etc. The rate our squad is going we'll be riped open like a bad piece of fruit but my fear is that when the dust settles around the Xmas mark our top flight experience may be all over
we should of had a squad together before we went to Austria and then add a few faces between then and the start of the season i think that the wait and see what happens game that pulis plays may bite him in the arse

Its all well and good to give him 100% support and I do...but nobody is above criticism and like many fans I think I can do better! With 2 weeks to go to anable us hitting the ground running and picking up very vital points...We could struggle with this squad and its clear that we have few irons in the fire. Yes tone has got it right before...biding his time and bringing in players after the start of the season and in january....fine in the champs as we had a squad which could compete without major improvements without getting relegated.....this season is a very different scenario and we really ought to have been further into improving the team.....of course he knows this it must have been part of the strategy for the new season.... and thats why I am getting a bit twitchy

I'm hanging on to the hope that Pulis normally brings a few new faces in just before the start of a new season. I really hope for four first teamers before the Bolton game. Higgy will come despite the row with Keane and I would hope for a couple more defenders a left midfielder and another striker. TP has earned the right to do it his way, but I honestly think hes found it more difficult than he anticipated. One things for sure we are leaving it awfully late. Fingers crossed for a busy week.

I am keeping everything crossed he has....but the reality rather than rumour is of Oster on trial and a one year extension for Matteo....suggests to me TP is reluctantly looking at quantity rather than quality....yep 2 weeks to go....start praying

Here's another extremely silly thread
HOW ON EARTH DOES ANYONE ON HERE KNOW EXACTLY WHICH 'PONDS' TONY PULIS IS ACTUALLY FISHING IN ????
(other than reading the pure speculation in a few very lowbrow and doomed comics ?)
AND As I said on another recent thread - Ian Rush ( Chester city) Ray Clemence & Keving Keegan (Scunnny) - if he bought some players from the lower leagues -youd all be horrifed too
Liverpool did - but of course - they were 'lacking in imagination' 'doomed' and 'unambitous' also
so what do we actually know on here about what stoke city are presently up to ?
not a lot actually - if truthful
DAFT thread - AGAIN !

He definately is, but I don't think we have been doing the scouting we should have around the World. It's talked about agents offering players to us, and want to send them on trial. It should be us asking agents for the players we've already watched and want to buy. I think we're amateurs when it comes to this.
From what an agent working around the World, and in fact have set up lots of deals for players both in South America, Africa and Europe has said, many clubs are doing a really bad job whwn it comes to signing players. He says it's all about watching interesting players over a period of time, and when you need players, you know who you want to go for.
I find it hard to belive TP to get what he needs. He won't have a chance to get proven PL players to come to Stoke, if he does, it will be players past his best. We need to be a PL club for some years before we'll be buying good players from other PL clubs. Why should they want to join Stoke? We don't pay more than their current clubs, and all odds are on us to go down.
TP needs to take the chance on young talent from lower leagues and to go foreign. It's the only way forward if we want to stay up. I don't think the way forward will be to buy players from the teams relegated last year either. They've already proven they can't keep their team up, as our current players aren't that much better than on the teams relegated.
We need at least 5 more players with quality, and time is about to run out for the start of the new season. No loan market to rely on now TP, when the transfer window is closed, it's the New Year before new players can arrive. By then it can be to late.

If He tried to get young talent in from lower divisions - he'd be slaughtered - not least on here
and thats part of my point
sometimes I wonder
just what on earth do stoke city fans expect ?
Wayne Rooney ? - Ronaldihnio Perhaps ?

If Liverpool fans can question Rafa who has won the Champs League FA Cup etc then we can certainly fuckin question Pulis.
This pre-season is on a par of the past 5 seasons desperate with pathectic excuses and desperate comments. WE NEED QUALITY PLAYERS ASAP

Of course we can question Pulis - but let's at least wait for the season to start and the transfer deadline to pass. Who knows who will arive yet.
We were all apprehensive last pre season but look what happened. Some of the posters on this thread were moaning for most of the last season and ended up looking quite stupid.

Where are the players Pulis said were 'lined up', what was the untapped source which was going to provide us with players that nobody else knew about, what's happened to all the irons in the fire - when will some of you learn that the guy will say anything to supporters he thinks they want to hear never mind if it's the truth or not. And he never has to explain - what a great position to be in.

When will some of you learn to be realsitic about what we can achieve. Somebody above mentioned Elmander as a signing we missed. FFS how much did he cost - £10 million.
Some of you should start enjoying the fact that we are where we are and stop fucking moaning.

I think even the most ardent Pulis fan would now have expected a lot more quality players on the payroll.
He seems to be playing a waiting game, which in the context of the game we are now in could be a massive gamble that could fail big-time.
Cool Hand Luke??????????

Larrypotter....Elmander fee was undisclosed so how do you know 10m.....the point is he has gone to Bolton managed by megson and who escaped by the skin of their teeth last year.Is that a really exciting move for him...but he wants prem footy... surely we can compete with them for signings.....but tp either cant or doesn't want to exploit the european market if he could we would have seen the signings. My point is Prem proven players will be very tough to sign and so its being proven....the ponds he should be fishing in are overseas and the best of the champs....Oli is a good signing and so is Halmosi...there is an element of risk about them but hey when the stakes are high you have to take a risk! Tone knows the players in the champs...and some would surely make the step up....some people are expecting the likes of Dicko and Whelan to do so...surely there is more....get the blinkers off TP

Elmander's fee is shown on Soccerbase. I was surprised it was £10 million as newspaper reports mentioned £11 million.
We can compete with Bolton on fees in the region of or under £5 million but the likes of Elmander would blow a sizeable chunk of our budget - and to be fair he looked far from worth that sort of money in the Euros.
So far we've signed two players with experience at Premier level and a Championship player. I've no doubt that more players will arrive before 31st August.
I'm not being blinkered about Pulis' ability but I do think that the guy has earned some respect for what he did last season and I'm surprised that some of the people on here seem to think differently. Pulis will stand or fall by results as does every manager every season.
