The whole thing is a joke and it is daft that people have to spend such a large chunk of their income on keeping warm and being able to heat their food.
I've had a look around and for all those struggling, one of the better companies is offering a discount for low income families where energy costs are more than 10% of their income; see below
Just to let everyone know, if you are a southern electric and gas customer you may be legible to get 20% off your bills if on low income.
if your usage is 10% or more of your income, then they will give you the discount. i just phoned to give my meter readings and ended up being passed to the energy pluscare dept who take your income details from you and then calculate whether or not you are legible. i was told within 1 minute that i would be legible and was on it from now!! i am on working tax credit, so i didnt think i would be able to receive this wonderful discount but i was wrong and am now delighted as this discount is going to save me around £400 a year. so to all who are on southern electric and/or gas heres the number -- "You can apply by ringing our Careline on 0800 622 838, We are open from 8am - 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am - 2pm on Saturdays"
Even if you aren't with them already it is worth switching to them as they are a good un'
Hope this helps someone..

Try living without central heating! I know it's radical but it's only recently everyone has had it.
Just chuck another overcoat on top of your bed!

Thats what a lot of pensioners already do Daftburger Lets turn the clock back even further eh? FFS What like opening up the pits? Yeh why not! If we used coal to generate electricity would it work out cheaper? Pensioners are always moaning over nothing and they get fuel allowances! They may walk round dressed like tramps moaning about everything but most of them are well off. Oh and clothes are cheaper than fuel and food! FFS!

we used to sleep four to a bed when I was a nipper, in the winter we were allowed to use grandads greatcoat to keep us warm.
them were the days, you could fart and blame the little one.
