A player is only worth what someone is prepared to pay these days. I don't think any player these days is actually worth their money.

If they get Moutinho in they have got themselves a quality deal.
They already have Yakubu, Anichebe and Vaughan as top notch strikers (with Cahill another alternative) and to have Moutinho and Arteta pulling the strings in midfield they will be a very handy side this season.

I suppose our Andy Johnson is Dave Kitson (or Zigic . To be honest, despite AJ being twice the price, I think Kitson is better than just half the player that Johnson is. However, our squad is fragile. Fulham (as an example) have signed Zamora, Pantsil, Schwarzer, Gera adn a couple of others. What you have to ask is would we have wanted them at Stoke and would they have improved us? The answer is undoubtedly yes. We have something other clubs don't have though- team spirit It will be a struggle but I love the fact that a team who has spent the best part of £30 million this summer are a major rival to us- it's like being in a different planet!!

It was team spirit that kept fulham up last season when they looked doomed......doesnt seem they will need that this year...fair play to them they have made some decent signings and look midtable to me

Anyone at the FA Cup match last year will remember the gulf in class that led to a 3-0 stroll for (a nothing special) Fulham.
Now they've got additional quality players, a rejuvenated Roy Hodgson and plenty of spirit after their remarkable survival.
Anyone thinking our 'bottom 6 mini league' is fairly straightforward based on spirit alone is in for a shock.
We must get quality ball players in and fast. We're all banking on TP in that respect but each new target seems to take an inordinate amount of time to finalise.
Some of the bravado on here at the moment after just two signings is naive to say the least.
Bolton, 18 days and counting...

Fulop has an opportunity to put himself in the limelight for, let's say, £10k a week. Hello, Marton, that's half a million quid sunshine and the chance for the world to see what you can do !!! Why on earth would you want to play reserve football ? Just shows how far this sport of ours has left the real world... Oops, wrong thread

Bolton, 18 days and counting... we did get dicked by them but that was two seasons ago and the team was:- City (4-4-2): Simonsen, Hoefkens, Duberry (c), Higginbotham, Griffin (Wilkinson 48), Lawrence, Matteo (Diao 52), Russell, Martin, Sidibe, Fuller (Rooney 64). Subs not used: Eustace, Pericard. www.stokecityfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/MatchReport/0,,10310~36556,00.html We have a bit more quality now (and so do they)

I wasn't merely basing our chances of survival on team spirit! The fact is, we need to make at least four/five new signings to have any chance to compete. TP is waiting for the right players (the Fulop/Sorensen thing is a prime example). We will make the signings in the next couple of weeks and I have faith that they will be the right ones. It is scary to see teams like Fulham splashing the cash but it is a great challenge for us to try and compete with them. I'd much rather be in this position than facing a possible promotion from the Championship

He got tore a new arsehole by Routledge that day. And ever since for us, Derby then us again he's been a shadow of his former self. Twas a good day out though!

Simonsen, Hoefkens, Duberry (c), Higginbotham, Griffin (Wilkinson 48), Lawrence, Matteo (Diao 52), Russell, Martin, Sidibe, Fuller (Rooney 64).
8 of those players are still on the books! And Martin was star man that day.
