Stoke City star Ricardo Fuller is ready to boost the club's promotion pretensions by signing a new long-term contract, The Sentinel can reveal.The new and improved deal is designed to keep Fuller at the club well beyond the 18 months left on his present contract. His signature will also send a huge message to players and fans alike about the club's long-term ambition ... and banish fears of a sale of probably the club's most bankable asset during the January transfer window. Today's news comes just three days after the Jamaican international ended a nine-match goal drought with a match-winning brace during Saturday's 3-2 victory at Blackpool. His efforts also earned him a place in the Championship team-of-the-week ... alongside one-time Stoke team-mate Martin Paterson. Fuller became a firm favourite with fans once he demonstrated his fitness and eye for goal following his move from Southampton in a package costing around £500,000 in August last year. He has further endeared himself to supporters this term by demonstrating greater personal control following two crucial red card suspensions last season. City manager Tony Pulis has invested much faith in a player now recovered from the fitness problems which dogged much of his previous career at Preston, Portsmouth and Southampton. He has consistently described his eight-goal striker as the best in the Championship on his day.  |

What's bugging me though is the use of the word 'pretensions' - does anybody else think that the use of this here is condescending and sceptical?
Definiton: "pretension - a false or unsupportable quality". Nice to know what the Sentinel really think, eh?

I'm ecstatic about this news.
He is the kind of player who potentially could get us up on his own (obviously wih a little help from the rest of the team)
