I've always said from the end of last season that we'd need seven first-team starters to have a chance of staying up next season. Let's say Kits and Seyi are 2, that leaves 5 still to sign.
Thing is, I've seen a few mentions on here of signing players who will fit into the squad and be useful to have on the bench - some even talking about SGO as such. Surely we can't afford to be signing NEW "squad players???" That would mean we'd be needing a total of about 10 or 12 new signings! The players we have now have to be considered as our squad players - eg Delap, Cort, Dicko, Simmo, Mama...arguably even Fuller and Whelan. They have to provide the depth - every new signing we make HAS to be better than that lot and HAS to be good enough to fit into the starting eleven of a Prem team.
