Seyi Signs Posted on: Sat 26 Jul 2008
Stoke City Football Club are delighted to announce the £3,000,000 signing of Nigerian international Seyi Olofinjana from Wolverhampton Wanderers, subject to a work permit.
Olofinjana, 28, has penned a four-year deal and becomes City's second highest transfer in the process.
The 6ft 4in midfielder joins the Potters having played a total of 147 games for Championship outfit Wolves during a four year spell at Molineux.
Announcing the deal, Chief Executive Tony Scholes said, "I'm delighted that we've signed a Nigerian international to compliment the rest of our squad. Article continues Advertisement
"Seyi will be joining up with the rest of the players on Monday after they return from a successful pre-season tour in Austria."
Speaking on his new player, manager Tony Pulis said, "Seyi is a great acquisition for this football club, and I am delighted he chose to join us ahead of several other top flight clubs.
"He is a player we think will enhance the squad and again it shows our ambitions to be competitive in the Premier League."
Olofinjana joined Wolves from Norwegian side SK Brann for £1,700,000 in July 2004 having begun his professional career at Kwara United back in his homeland.
He made his debut for the Black Country club against the Potters on the opening day of the 2004/05 season, a fixture in which City won 2-1 in front of the television cameras.
In September 2006, Seyi would score the second in Wolves' 2-0 win over Tony Pulis' side at Molineux, a year in which his club went as far as the play-off semi-finals.
Last season he scored on the first and final days of the campaign, in the 2-1 defeat at home to Watford and the 1-0 win at home to Plymouth Argyle respectively.
He also featured for his country as recently as January where the Super Eagles faced Mamady Sidibe's Mali and the Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations.
His international team-mates include Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins and Everton duo Joseph Yobo and Yakubu.

Sorry , a complete waste of money !!! Much better available than him ! Perhaps you should be the manager of our football club. The fact that we guarded off several top flight clubs says everything to me, a good signing- one which i didn't expect but a big improvement on what we have. Keep going tone!

thing is - yes we have a lot of defensive midfield players, but not many that feel really good enough for the top-flight.
Can anyone honestly say we have anyone in this lads position who is better than him? I don't think so. Also having better quality in front of the back four may well free up Whelan, who I believe does have the vsion and skill for the Premiership.

does this mean the club expect Austin to fail his work permit?
or do Stoke see Rudi as covering the back 4 more than as a midfielder?

Lets get behind him! The next Vieira That's more like it. I seriously reckon that Pulis has a set of targets which he KNOWS he can attain, but he's trying to BETTER them at the moment, that's why signings haven't been so quick in arriving.

I seriously reckon that Pulis has a set of targets which he KNOWS he can attain, but he's trying to BETTER them at the moment, that's why signings haven't been so quick in arriving. But is Olofinjana one of his A-list? I've got to be honest, I'm underwhelmed. If Kitson was a 9, this is probably only a 6 , at least at first inspecton. Not that my view counts for anything, but it's bit much to expect a place as diverse and as passionate as a football messageboard to welcome every new signing unquestioningly with bouquets of flowers If Hull had signed him, we'd be decrying him as just another one of Tango's unproven, Championship-standard rent-a-mob, who he's rushed in to sign. I do generally rate Pulis' eye for a player who'll fit in with what he wants in certain areas of the pitch, but I do find it pretty hard to completely disregard the views of the overwhelming majority of Wolves fans, who've been watching him every week since 2004. It's true the Soton fans were wrong with Fuller, but he was only there briefly - and we'd all seen with our own eyes when he was at PNE, just how devastating he could be. If Pulis is right, and they're wrong, more power to his elbow. But, let's face it, until that happens, the jury's out.

Typical George2 comment, he has slagged off the club solidly regardless for about the last 6 years on here, probably not a Stoke fan.

Im not convinced with him, but lets wait and see what he brings to the party - his style may well suit our game.
Please dont slate george2again for having an opinion because if he's right and Seyi does turn out to be a bag of shit, I dont think you'll be queing up to apologise

Fullermagic, I have never taken anything you've had to say seriously since the day you slagged Pulis for his formation before one match, which we went on to win away scoring 4 goals at Elland road :]
