Would anyone else be happy enough if we started the season with Simmo in goal?
I personally don't see goal-keeper as our most alarming area to strengthen, i think we have a very good goalie in Simonsen, he is an excellent shot stopper, with prem experience, and if he can iron out his claiming off corners, and commanding of his area, he could be excellent.
I certainly wouldn't be disappointed to see Fulop or Nash etc... sign because they are good goal-keepers who can offer something to the team, but ide sooner see, a decent left midfielder signed up, and possibly another defender and striker.
Pulis knows what he's doing, and i'm sure he knows what simmo has to offer, so even if Fulop signs, i still hope/think Simonsen could play a significant role this season.

Simmo is good enough to play in the Prem. but a keeper like Fulop is needed as well. Midfield players with vision , passing ability and with an eye for goal would interest me more at this stage - We still lack the ability to break down well-organised defences. Kitson, Lawrence & Fuller are good enough but need two recruits of similar ability.

I think there's a lot to be said for your thinking. There's worse keepers in the Premier league and our goals against record over the last couple of seasons speaks for itself.
Too much is being made of search for a keeper....too much money certainly.

Simmo is not commanding enough to play in the Prem.
That's painfully obvious.

Unfortunately being a great shot stopper isn't enough. There's been a lot of talk about Gordon Banks on here recently, and he certainly made some unbelievable saves, but for me, much more of his game was about positioning and anticipation, which gave confidence to the defence. Sometimes it seems that Simmo just gets it wrong, particularly at set pieces.

Simmo definitely not good enough for the premiership
He's a good short range shot stopper but does not read long shots and crosses and doesn't command his area

Nash improved our defence when he arrived last season - although to be fair the arrival of Riggott also helped. But I'd say Nash wasn't really good enough for a regular No1 spot in the Prem. We HAVE to strengthen - if we survive it will be by a dozen points or less and the difference between an excellent keeper and a good keeper could well be the difference. Simo will be ok as back up and competing for his place might even sharpen up that side of his game which is lacking.
I remember people who thought our goal keeper was good enough before we signed Crossley!

We need a TOP keeper, Simmo isn't one- a good championship player. Fulop would be a super signing and i'm sure Simmo wouldn't mind sitting on the bench of a premier league club

I only just got a copy of the season review the other day and my impression was that Simmo was out fucking standing early season. Still has a lot to offer in my book but whatever happens we need at least one more keeper.

Latest from Sentenel...
STEVE Simonsen is promising a fight to the finish for number one billing at the Britannia Stadium when Stoke finally land their next goalkeeping capture.
Stoke's first-team squad is waiting on tenterhooks out in Austria for the arrival of City's next summer signing.
And Sunderland goalkeeper Marton Fulop is among the favourites to be next through the door amid rumours of an extraordinary £6m Stoke bid for the Hungarian.
But Simonsen last night strengthened his case for retaining the number one jersey if, or when, Fulop arrives with a string of fine saves during the first half of Stoke's 1-0 defeat to FC Nuremberg in Stainach.
He foiled the German outfit with a couple of terrific first-half efforts, but was powerless to stop Greek international Angelos Charisteas stroking home a 29th-minute winner.
"The conditions were just like being back in England, so it was a good test and it was obviously nice to make a couple of saves," said Simonsen.
"Certainly another goalkeeper will be arriving at the club, there's no doubt about that, but we'll just have to wait and see who it is.
"In the meantime, I'll just keep on doing what I do and hope that is good enough.
"We know the manager is going to bring in another goalkeeper and when he does, I will fight for my place."
Simonsen's comments came as the Daily Mail claimed Stoke had bid £6m for Fulop – £3m to be paid up front with the rest of the cash coming from add-ons. Manager Tony Pulis played all 19 fit players at his disposal last night as only long-term injury victim Ricardo Fuller watched from the sidelines.
"There were one or two knocks, but I don’t think anything too serious," he said. "It was a good run out for all the lads against a team that could play."
Dave Kitson, together with the club's new away kit, both made their debuts in a fixture attracting little over 100 spectators.
"We gave Dave his first run out for the team during the first 45 minutes," added Pulis, "and it was nice to see a few bright moments from him as he eases his way into Stoke City."

In a way I feel for Simmo, I was amazed we got him to sign a new contract when we did, he was on top form and rumours of bigger clubs interested. Also when the final whistle went against Leicester you could see how much it meant to him.
Problem is he suffered from poor form at a time we needed all 11 men to be at their best. For me though he is a steady keeper, great shot stopper, good servant to the club and a I hope he does get a go in sticks.
