As a retired builder my father in law now does smallish jobs and upon working on a house "building fireplaces etc etc" the owner actually had builders in and they continued to carry on working regardless of there being a structual fault. My father in law then pointed out to both the owner of the house and the builders regarding the fault. Afterwards the builders agreed with my father in law and the lady who owns the house could not thank my father in law enough for his knowledge because this would have cost thousands upon thousands to put right in the not too distant future.
Edit - those builders did not even know of the structual fault.

my missus works for the Cheshire Building Society, Housing side, she had to go for an interview yesterday for one of the 15 jobs they are keeping from 50, so 35 to go. Before she went she had to go and open a house for a couple to get their furniture out of a re-possesion, they have had to go into a bedsit, lovely old couple who have fallen foul of some mortgage company being taken over by another mortgage company, getting hit with new deal set ups etc. Looks like they have been stung and my missus told them to get a lawyer involved as they shouldn't have had to pay anything if one takes over another All these people who overstretched themselves, with houses 4*4's, using their credit cards for holiday's are going to have to live sensibly for a while and hopefully learnt a lesson with this. You can't run an economy on credit card borrowing !!

You can't run an economy on credit card borrowing !! Unfortunately, without us spending there is no economy!! The sad fact is is that the cost of living here is so high people have had no option but to borrow money! Economists believe that the average persons debt is 160% of his annual salary (excluding mortgages)
