The worst is Jamie Redknapps wife doing Stuck in the Middle.
But you asked for the best so Big Country doing Honky Tonk Woman takes some beating IMHO.

One of my favourite records of all time is The Wedding Presents- My Favourite Dress...and their version of The Falls version of Lost in Music..at 'Peelacres' is absolutely amazing..with all those jangly guitars at the end....
"Lost in music...caught in a trap...no turning back...I'm lost in music....jangle.jangle.jangle.jangle
Wonderful and frightening ;D

Jimi Hendrix's version of Bob Dylan's 'All Along The Watchtower' The most obvious choice ever, but it has to be said, it's a colossal cover version , ... dare i say it, better than the original . couple more- Jeff Buckley covering Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah also did a great cover of the smith's 'i know it's over', if by the 6th minute of this song you are not in tears then you're made of stone

Carrying on the Dylan theme:- Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Death is not the end, off the Murder Ballads album (guest appearances by Shane McGowan, Kylie & PJ Harvery) - uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VJwE86PrckwRobyn Hitchcock's cover of Trying to get the Heaven before they close the door off his 2004 album Spooked rather good too.

RBJ - I picked up the full CD with pull out etc of Murder Ballads from that grumpy bloke on NuL Tuesday market for £2 As much as I like Nick Cave, Johnny Cash's version of The Mercy Seat is quite haunting

If you like The Cramps, pretty much everything from "Songs That The Cramps Taught Us" especially "I Can't Hardly Stand It" by Charlie Feathers and "She Said" - Hasil Adkins
I don't know if I prefer "Psychotic Reaction" by Count Five or The Cramps
Easy All Stars. Their dub covers of Dark (Dub) Side Of The Moon and Radiodread are good. Electioneering is my fave but nothing decent on Youtube. Airbag

from this to this but I do like both I always thought that this was the original - uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rAj9YJg8lN8 - so you've taught me something. Better cover, I think, than UB40's.

Oasis cover of Neil Youngs Hey hey My My is a good one, The High Llamas are shite as was there cover of Frankly mr Shankly At least with the High Llamas' cover of Frankly Mr. Shankly, like it or not (I don't particularly like it, nor hate it), it is different from the original. Better that than slavish copying?
