A Good Start - Pulis Posted on: Fri 18 Jul 2008
City boss Tony Pulis believes the pre-season friendly at the Lyme Valley Stadium was a success for a variety of reasons.
The Potters beat hosts Newcastle Town 3-0 thanks to goals from strikers Richard Cresswell, Jon Parkin and Adam Rooney and Pulis once again thanked the local club for their hospitality.
"It's always nice to come here," he said.
"It's a tradition for us to come and I like it because they always look after us.
"We may be in the Premier League now but it's all about the local community and it's good to play here. Article continues Advertisement Click Here!
"It was a good run out but at this stage it's all about getting the match fitness of the players up, that's the most important thing."
Pulis is expecting to take around 20 players to the Bad Aussee resort in Austria tomorrow, including new arrival Dave Kitson and injured striker Ricardo Fuller.
Fuller has been recovering from a knee injury suffered while on international duty with Jamaica last month and while he isn't set to feature in any games, he will be taking part in other fitness work.
"Ric will be doing lots of cycling and swimming while we're out there but we've got to be extra careful with him.
"He's recovering well with his knee but we've got to make sure he's right before we put him back in."
The City boss will also be in touch with the club throughout the tour as he continues to work hard to bring new faces into the Britannia Stadium.
And while Pulis is delighted to have made his first summer capture, smashing the club's transfer record in the progress, he is already on the prowl for his second signing.
"It's the first one of many hopefully," he added.
"We've spoken to loads of players and loads of agents but we've got to make sure we get the right people in.
"We had a great team spirit last season that got us where we are today and we need to keep that going.
"Dave was ear-marked early on in the summer and he's a terrific signing but we're hopeful of getting a few more in and could even spend that type of money again if the player is right for the football club."
go on tone get them rolling in!!!!!!!!!!
