Not the best title in the world, but having only browsed this board during the Summer months, the numerous posts over the past 10 days - 2 weeks really sum up why I go awol during this period.
Threads below refer to us as "becoming Joke City" and "laughing stock" and all manner of derogatory things borne out of sheer panic.
What the fuck is there to panic about. If we don't sign anyone (which obviously won't happen) the worst that will happen is that we will (probably) get relegated.
Big fucking deal. The most important thing was to get to the Premier League, get the money and use it wisely to build a football club to be proud of. By my reckoning we now have 4 years to achieve exactly that. If that means sensible signings, not wasting money and getting relegated, then so be it.
I am no lover of Pulis, but both he and Coates have earned the right to be trusted again. We HAVE to believe that our future is safe in their respective hands.
So what if Carson doesn't sign. The fact that we are even after him, and agreed a substantial fee, can only reflect well on us. It shows our ambitions to others, and it also shows the type of player that we are shopping for...ones that will move us forward, substantially, give time.
Kitson is another...10 goals in a team relegated is a fair effort and he would be a great signing. If he doesn't sign, someone else will, and I am confident it will be someone of similar calibre.
We may have money that we have never had before, but that doesn't mean we have money to waste. We will get this opportunity once and we have to make the most of it.
Some of you lot really need to get into the real world. I wouldn't want one of the players that Hull have signed to date, and if Simmo is to be our 2nd choice keeper next season, then he is 10 times the 2nd choice keeper than Hull have just signed in Tony Warner.
We have absolutely nothing to worry about, nothing to panic about and we won't have until those parachute payments are running out and we don't look like getting back.
The absence of sensible and rational posters on this board over the summer months is more prevalent than ever this summer.
Our future is bright, regardless of signings or lack of them, or the potential for relegation or otherwise. Signings will arrive, good ones I suspect, sprinkled in with some crap too proabably, but we will know about it when it happens.
Until then we will continue to be linked with every player going, and like any sensible person, we should take everything with a pinch of salt.
I can't wait for this season to start. Backs to the wall from the off is a challenge Pulis will relish the most, and I can't wait to start supporting the team again in the season ahead.
Calm down guys, and stop posting endless drivels of shit!
Rant over! Go on Stoke! ;D

"If we don't sign anyone (which obviously won't happen) the worst that will happen is that we will (probably) get relegated."
I'm afraid I stopped reading here in disbelief. Hey-ho, if we meekly accept relegation now, why does it matter? You know what I don't give a shit that I paid for a season ticket this year and the last 10 years for this moment? Why should I care?!
Are you a Stoke fan at all?
I care if we do a Derby! I don't want it to happen! If we get relegated its having done our absolute best as a club to stay up not because of completely shambolic management by Tony 'Clueless' (yes, the tag is back IMO).
You know what, I'm sick of all these 'be positive' posts - because nothing justifies them.
Rant over.

Mikey,
You are prepared to end up like Leeds & Bradford then for a small chance of staying up during our first season?
Thank God you aren't in charge at Stoke.

Mike...The whole point being that we will simply wait and see.
I don't want us to do a Derby either, nor do I want us to be relegated. I don't think we will do a Derby even if we went into the season with last seasons team.
The whole point being that there is absolutely nothing to panic about yet. We are yet to miss out on our CHOSEN targets, whoever they may be, and our likely rivals for that 4th from bottom spot have signed NO-ONE that we can feel hard done to to have missed. The Dutch full-back WBA have signed obviously has potential, but I can't envisage that we were after him.
Good players will arrive and they will arrive as and when the deals can be completed. I have every confidence that Coates will do his bit...4m for Carson shows that substantial money is available for the right player!
Just relax, sit back and enjoy the ride.
I can't wait...If we do our bit, I think that next season could well be the best "SUPPORTING" year in my lifetime. I really can't wait!

No-one said break the bank - but this is our best ever chance to showcase Stoke City as more than a joke-club of long ball and hooliganism.

If that is all you want to achieve Mikey, then I am fairly confident (100% in fact) that your ambitions will be royally met and exceeded!
I am ultra confident that we will make a decent fist of fighting for survival and with the right players, think we can at least match what Sunderland achieved.
Add the right players to the blend of qualities in our current team, then I really think we will surprise a few people.
If we don't, we have 4 years to build a club that will be unrecognizable from the one that I have grown up supporting. (my first season being the Holocaust season)

Good post Dave, 95% of the squad that did so well to get us here have been written off by some already, along with the management team that assembled and guided them, and before we've even had a pre-season friendly. I've been waiting 23 fucking years for these bastards to get back up here and I'll be damned, signings or not, if I'm going to do anything other than fucking well enjoy it.....................until we're bottom at December at least ;D

I am always in the camp that if it can be done then it will be done and if it cant, for whatever reason, then it cant so theres no point getting upset.
I havent paid any more for my ST than I did last year and Im seeing Stoke in the Prem.
This Carson thing is an excellent example. It is clear the club have pulled the stops out to do that deal.
If the greedy cunt' wants £30k a week then I hope he gets it but not with us. He aint worth it and I trust Tone to get other options sorted

I have very little faith in Pulis to deliver the goods this summer. At Christmas they were talking about compiling a list of targets should we get promoted - and here we are, little over a month away from the start of the season having signed no-one.
I am anxious, because management appear to show too little respect to the job ahead of them this season. This is no cake-walk. We can't expect to do what we did last season and scrape through on last-minute loan deals.

talk of "doing a derby" etc is a bit fucking premature. we could sign wank players pretty quickly, because there's little competition for them at our level, and they're available quite easily. Good players are harder to get, and harder to attract. The premiership transfer market is all interlinked (i.e. carson may be waiting for blackburn, if friedel ends up going to villa maybe etc). It's also a food chain, and we're down near the bottom of this one. Its easier for bigger clubs to do their business first, but other clubs have to contend with players waiting to see what their options are at their current and prospective clubs before deciding. Lets wait and see what happens. We've agreed a fee for one player, and i'm happy with the standard of player we're being linked with.

I am no Pulis lover either Mikey, but actually believe he will relish the challenge of keeping us up more than he would have relished the challenge to get us promoted.
He will be better with his back to the wall!
I am really confident that good players will arrive (and some crap ones). We just have to be patient. If they arrive last minute, they arrive last minute. If they don't, so be it.
4 Years is the crucial thing in my mind. We have been shit for far too long to expect miracles in the space of 1 season.
I had absolutely no faith in Pulis to deliver us the promotion that we so badly needed, but having achieved it, he deserves the confidence and time to do what is required.

Well we'll have to disagree then. Because if we sign any less than five or six good players before the game at the Reebok I will be furious because this team is no way good enough to stay in the Prem.

Seems like the first, a striker that has proven he can score goals in the Premiership, and who was touted for an England call-up in February, is likely to be the first arrival for 5m in the morning!
As I said...No need to panic...1 down, 4 to go!

pretty much agree with mikeyb here.we need players to get us into that 4th from bottom place.our current heroes imo cant do that.it would be sad if after all the work that went into last season could not be built on.
