...at this current media obsession with knife crime. It's always been a problem but now they're jumping on it as if it's a new thing, and exaggerating the problem to make it seem like you will get knifed if you walk out after dark.
But the main thing about it that really gets my goat is that everyone seems to think that making it more difficult to buy a knife will solve the problem. What utter tripe. Knives themselves aren't the problem, it's the kids that are the problem. To stop them from buying a knife will simply, in my opinion, make it more appealing to try and buy one. I know from my own experiences of going out underage and buying fags and booze just for the thrill of it...
But still, what's to stop a would-be killer from going into the kitchen and taking a knife from a drawer? Or using something else like a pair of scissors? What it all boils down to is that kids who go out to stab one another are agressive, criminal scum, and people will always find ways to kill one another. The fact that they've focussing on knife crime is an exercise in futility, because anything sharp or pointed could be used as a knife.
And what's all this "if you carry a knife, you will go to prison" bollocks? Would a Swiss Army Knife count if I went camping? Or if I'd just gone out and was on my way back from the shops to buy kitchen knives? Somehow I don't think that would count, so what's to stop people from carrying knives in the packaging to get round such things?

Hate to be an "attention seeker" but I'm bringing this to the top because I really want some serious views about this... Positive or negative, as long as they're well thought out...

I agree with you to some extent boother. As horrific as knife crime is I do think the press are latching on to things that they wouldn't normally. Sad as it seems I doubt the stabbing of a young London lad would normally make the nationals like this: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7512920.stmIt would be interesting to know what last years knife crime figures were in comparison to this years. And yes, if a kid wants a knife he/she will get one, irregardless of the laws. Knife amnesties always raise a wry smile with me because I have visions of middle class, upright citizens handing in their entire cutlery drawer of Ikea carvers....

universally challenged mate I think the press are jumping on it because it has gone from being gangs against gangs to innocent guys getting stabbed to death on streets. Along with grown men telling youths to move on from outside their houses and getting beaten to death. this country is a joke, bring back corporal punishment and well run borstals
