www.whydelilah.co.uk/news/Kit-bagged-31392737.aspxNews 17/07/2008 - Kit bagged?
Stoke City are closing fast on a deal for Reading striker Dave Kitson which will obliterate the club's transfer record.
The Sentinel understands the deal could eventually total £4m if 28-year-old Kitson becomes Stoke's first summer signing and then goes on to be a big success in their debut Premier League campaign.
Fulham and Wigan were also reported to be monitoring Kitson's availability, but appear to have shifted their sights elsewhere in recent days after moving in for other strike targets.
Pulis wants Kitson's finishing ability, work-rate and aggression to complement and enhance his existing attack.
His arrival would also strengthen the look of a Stoke frontline already weakened by the current absence of injured star striker Ricardo Fuller.
It remains to be seen whether Kitson's signing will be completed in time for him to come under serious consideration for tomorrow evening's first pre-season friendly at Newcastle Town (6.45pm kick-off).
Kitson shot to prominence in League football after netting 40 goals in 102 appearances for Cambridge between 2001 and 2003 - his Football League debut coming at the Britannia Stadium when appearing as a second-half substitute in a 3-2 win over Stoke in March 2001.
His goalscoring record at Cambridge subsequently earned him a move to Reading, then in the Championship, for an initial fee of £150,000.
He was soon among the goals again after notching 19 in 37 appearances in the 2004/06 season and 18 in 34 games during their promotion campaign 12 months later.
His impact on the Premier League was hindered by an early injury that restricted him to 13 appearances and two goals in Reading's debut season, while their following campaign in 2007/08 saw Kitson claim 10 in 34 league appearances en route to their final-day relegation.
Meanwhile, Stoke were reporting no fresh development in their £3m pursuit of Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson today as he weighs up offers from City and West Brom.
Pulis has already warned the England international that time is running short as he threatens to look again at the likes of Sunderland's Marton Fulop.
STOKE legend Alan Hudson will be signing copies of his new book, The Waddington Years, ahead of tomorrow's friendly at Newcastle Town from 5pm onwards.

APPARENTLY Dave Kitson is not the only Reading player interesting Stoke boss Tony Pulis. The Potters are one of several clubs tracking the Royals £3m-rated midfielder James Harper, according to the TEAMtalk.com website. The terms of Harper's deal at the Madejski meant he was free to leave if Reading were relegated from the Premier League. However, Royals boss Steve Coppell claims Harper is happy to stay put, despite reported interest from Bolton, Middlesbrough, West Ham and Stoke. Coppell told the Reading Evening Post: “It was in his contract that he goes on the transfer list if we got relegated. “He's on the transfer list – and if someone meets our valuation then I'll put it to him. But he's quite happy to stay here and play. “He's spent a number of years at the club and, in a way, is excited about trying to get back in the Premier League. “He just loves his football; he just wants to play week in, week out. “He just says, 'If I'm going I'll go, and if I'm staying I'll stay' and you'll know you'll get 100 per cent. That's perfect with me.”

Reading Off. Site are still going with the Jackanory stuff about a cold! www.readingfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10306~1345538,00.html The line-up saw those not involved in a 2-0 victory at Forest Green the previous evening play a full part. Dave Kitson again missed the game through illness but will hopefully be involved at stadium:mk on Saturday.www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/jul/17/blackburn.stokecityStoke City are expected to announce within the next 48 hours that Dave Kitson has agreed to join the newly promoted Premier League club for about £3m. It is understood that Kitson's representatives have held talks with Stoke after Reading sanctioned the striker's departure.
The 28-year-old, who had also been a target for Birmingham City, scored 60 goals during his 4½ years with Reading, including 10 in the Premier League last season. Birmingham have instead signed Marcus Bent on a three-year contract from Charlton Athletic in a deal that could be worth more than £1m.

The Sentinel are usually in the know, so if they are talking about his signing like it will be done today or tomorrow, barring a serious last minute hitch, it looks like he is as good as ours.
Nice one, Tone. Now only another 4 or 5 quality signings to go!!

Kitson will be a really good signing for you, assuming it comes off. I'll actually be quite pleased for you lot because having kept an eye on this board over the summer it's been impossible to miss the increasing anxiety and disappointment over the absence of any new players.
You'll need a lot more than Kitson and a new keeper to make a decent fist of it next season, mind, but at least this might be the start. I kind of hope you stay up, along with us , of course. Up the tigers.

Cheers- I think your gaffer has made some decent signings without having to pay big money on fees, i think he has learnt a lot from Allardyce and think with a couple more decent signings you should just about steer clear of relegation.

I'll believe it when I see it, yesterday in the London papers they said we were not prepared to meet the fee and had cooled our interest! Wasn't that just in Tuesday's Independent? Since then, it looks to have gained an irresistible momentum, and it looks pretty much done. The Sentinel are a pretty good barometer. I'd be amazed if he wasn't on the plane to Austria on Saturday.

From today's Reading Chronicle...
Dave Kitson will come back into contention after missing Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Forest Green with a cold and the likes of James Harper, Nicky Shorey, Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt may all be involved despite widespread speculation surrounding their futures.
Then on Monday Coppell will name his 20-man squad for Reading’s week-long tour to Sweden and any obvious omissions are certain to send the rumour mill into overdrive.

I remember his debut at the Brit, they went 2-0 up, we battered 'em for ten minutes, got it back to 2-2, somehow failed to get a third (JO'C hit the post I think) and they scored in injury time to win it.
