Although I am not panicking over the fact that we haven't signed a single new player. At it stands now we have the second weakest squad in the prem. the 'mini league' at the bottom is likely to include Stoke Hull West Brom Fulham Wigan Bolton Sunderland balckburn and Middlesboro. None of these sides should give us nightmares about playing them and only Fulham and West brom have made decent signings. Hull are far away in the worst plight and their new signings have been desperate measures....but we need to compete with the rest and at the moment I dont think we will without 4/5 quality signings and soon. Every point will be precious and the Bolton game away is a huge game for us to put a marker down against the rest of the potential strugglers...lets hope TP and PC will surprise us

are you are talking about quality or quantity? According to sky, these are the CURRENT squad listings (not sure why Nash is listed though - he wasn't the last time I looked ) Stoke.......... Goalkeeper: 1 Steve Simonsen 36 Carlo Nash Defender: 2 Andy Griffin 5 Leon Cort 14 Danny Pugh 17 Ryan Shawcross 20 Richie de Laet 22 Lewis Buxton 28 Andy Wilkinson 30 Ryan Shotton 31 Carl Dickinson Midfielder: 6 Glenn Whelan 7 Liam Lawrence 18 Salif Diao 24 Rory Delap 27 Demar Phillips Striker: 8 Jon Parkin 9 Richard Cresswell 10 Ricardo Fuller 11 Mamady Sidibe 15 Vincent Pericard Dull......... Goalkeeper: 1 Boaz Myhill 12 Matt Duke 26 Tom Woodhead Defender: 3 Andy Dawson 5 Bernard Mendy 6 Michael Turner 15 Wayne Brown 21 Samuel Ricketts 29 Matt Plummer Midfielder: 2 Nathan Doyle 4 Ian Ashbee 8 Nick Barmby 11 Bryan Hughes 13 Ryan France 19 John Welsh 19 Simon Walton 22 Dean Marney 27 Nicky Featherstone 31 Will Atkinson - Geovanni Striker: 9 Dean Windass 14 Richard Garcia 17 Michael Bridges 18 Caleb Folan - Craig Fagan Dull's best player has gone back to Manure - I think we have the edge in the quality stakes

I wouldn't say Hull have a weaker squad right now, but it's currently not too different from ours and when we finally make some signings, I would expect ours to be superior.

I think it's your manager who knows very little about football if those wank signings he has made are anything to go by. Tony Warner ;D
It's no mystery why the bookies have Dull as favourites to be relegated even after these signings.

Explain your reasoning please? We have signed 6 players (Fagan, Geovanni, Mendy, Boateng, Halmosi, and Warner). Its not as though you finished 20 points ahead of us last season, you went up in the final game FFS. You have signed nobody, and even the most die hard Stoke fans can see our squad is currently stronger than yours. Id keep your mouth shut son, because you clearly know very little about football Im sorry, what gives you the right to tell people on their own message board to shut their mouths?? Id have taken one or possibly two players from your team last season. One obvious choice thats no longer with you, and maybe Ian Ashbee so that he wouldnt have scored the goal that delayed our promotion. Even now from your new signings, theres only 3 that I wouldnt mind (Mendy, Geovanni and Halmosi) and only the Halmosi signing made me envyous. Lawrence, Fuller, Shawcross, Whelan, Simonsen or Mendy, Ashbee, Myhill, Halmosi, Geovanni? I know which team Id want to inherate

I think the problem with Hull is that you've signed Fagan who is certainly not Premiership standard, Warner, who is shockingly inconsistent, and Halmosi who looked good at Championship level, but not good enough, in my eyes for the Premiership. Boateng is getting on a bit now and has lost his pace. Mendy and Geovanni are good players, IMO, but you've also lost Frazier Campbell, who even the most die-hard Hull supporters saw as key to your success last year. You've also lost Clement who was very solid at the back, and in my opinion your squad now, is no better than it was at the end of last year.

I thought it was a fair assessment....Hull were some way behind us last season and have ageing players....as pointed out by baggiejp...hull have added players but lost their key one who without him last season would not have made the playoffs. Maybe they will sign more but at the moment they look very threadbare

The only player i'd have from hull right now is myhill and he would be behind Simmo. If we sign Carson or Fulop then I wouldn't have Boaz.
I would agree that it is only Hull who have a weaker squad, but with a few signings then we will be able to compete with more teams.
Hull will see us and West Brom as a minimum of 10 points next season which is exactly how us and West Brom need to be thinking.

Would love to know how you've come to the conclusion ours is weaker?
We've made some top signings this summer, with some more to come. Geovanni, Mendy, Boateng and Halmosi are all good players, although admittedly Halmosi has no experience at Premiership level. We also have Delron Buckley on trial from Dortmund, who looked good in the friendly last night (Against a local team in a very low league, but still) he has pace and can run at players.
I must agree, i'm certainly not sure on Warner, but i can't see him being used as anything more than backup for Boaz.
On the Campbell front, it's been well documented we want him back, and the papers again today are rumouring we'll bid £5million for him. Ferguson has said once back from South Africa he'll decide on Fraz's future. However, if he is to allow him out on loan, we have first option on him.
One thing i don't get was Birchesheadpotter's post regarding the players i'd rather have. I'd certainly prefer Myhill to Simonsen...

We can't say our squad is better than theirs, they've gained some good players (except fagan- don't rate him at all), until we sign players, at the moment I'm in acceptance that we're probably the weakest squad in the league

Tiger bread has a good point. They did lose their prize asset, but have at least brought in some reasonably capable players. Whether they are good enough only time will tell. I can't wait to see Windyass in the Prem though...
As for us, we have a weaker squad than last season as we have so far sent back the loan players and not brought anyone in else.
Based on the "maths" alone, he is correct.

Premiership or International Experience I'd say ours was stronger.

I'd take our situation now over Hull's.
That's not to say our squad is better at the moment but it doesn't matter too much at the moment, it's when the season starts that matters.

Yep we will, we'll see how the next few weeks pan out though and then assess who has the better squad. Personally I'd like to see us, Hull and West Brom stay up (only because we're guaranteed 6 points the season after )
