Never posted rumors, but had a text from someone reliable that Carson is at the Brit. No further information, he's not standing with a scarf or eating a pie, but he is definitely at the Brit.
PLIBT that he signs!!!!!!
My source does not work at the Brit, but a member of his family is very well connected.

I haven't seen much of him at all, just the odd Sky game and highlight package. And the Croatia game must have knocked him for 6. Unless he's a real tough cookie, he probably still hasn't got that out of his system. The move to Liverpool at an early age with absolutely no football behind him gave him a very high profile, and the assumption that goes with that is that he's a top-rank keeper. But Benitez has never shown any inclination to give him a run there, or displayed any confidence in him. Obviously that's not a massive problem in itself, as you have to be exceptional to get a break there. But very few on this particular forum rate him at all highly at Villa. As a snapshot ,his signing had virtually no support and he was just not rated. www.villatalk.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=40245And even his 'supporters' on there admit he has major flaws and point to potential more than current performance. He is only 23 , and presumably still learning the ropes. It seems bizarre to be picking holes in potentially getting a Liverpool player who's played for England within the last year, but it makes you think. I take on board that he supposedly had a good season at Charlton in their relegation season, but that was a season when they were getting peppered, and he presumably had more chance to make eye-catching saves. He's clearly not a bad keeper, and presumably somebody at Liverpool identified he had the tools in his locker to be excellent; but I think most keepers of a certain standard would look relatively competent at any level. If you plonked Simonsen or Nash in at a top Premier club for a season, they wouldn't stink the place out. I suppose it's all fractions that divide the best from the mediocre -and they seem to think there's little in Carson at this stage of his development that singles him out as an above-average Prem keeper. I suppose he'd at least raise our profile a bit. I'm not really sure how many point he'd either win us or lose us, when compared to a Simonsen or a Fulop though?

Is Carson £2m better than Fulop or £4m better than Simonsen (who we got a free)? Me thinks not.
I'd go for Fulop at £2m and save the rest for other areas we need to strengthen as we don't have limitless resources.

The Villa fans above are judging him on an apparently very indifferent season.

It’s a fair question to ask whether he’s £2M better than Fulop and the answer is probably not but as a signing it would be an excellent statement of intent. He is one of the best English keepers around and would represent a huge coup.

Lets face it, judging on England Goalkeeper peformances Robinson, James & Carson would all look crap, we all know thats not the case!!
He would be a cracking signing, a big name like this would show our intent and hopefully attract a few more quality signings.

Excellent analysis Fuller. True, it would be nice to have another top notch keeper, but when I look at the Season Review video, Simmo did a pretty good job and pulled off a number of world class saves during the season. Great if we can get either Carson or Fulop, but surely there are higher priorities in other areas of the pitch.

Remember the Southampton fans not rating Fuller before he moved to us? I bet they'd love a player like him now.
Fuck what he did for England, fuck what he's done for Liverpool and fuck what he did for Villa.
If he does sign then all that matters is what he does for Stoke City and I for one would be fully behind the lad as he is better than what we've got, in my opinion.

He would be a great signing profile wise, would definitely turn a few heads and show a statement of intend by SCFC. A potential england no. 1 in our ranks would be a fantastic coup, but i do hope that Carson wouldn't be our only major signing, we need bodies more urgently in other areas. I'm feeling quite positive about this though, and can really see it happening as the same person who sent me this text, also told me in the Waddington Suite on Saturday that we were getting close to completing it, and with this confirmation... PLIBT!!!

Deffo agree we should get behind him if he signs, deffo agree he is better than what we have got and deffo agree his signing would be a bit of a coup.
However, when we only have about £15m-20m to spend at most, £4m is a bloody big chunk, especially when another international keeper who has had very good reviews (Fulop) is seemingly available (subject to negotiations with Sunderland being sorted) and keen to come to us, and probably for around half that amount.

It is a concern.
Given the glaring holes in the squad, and the need for at least 6 other new faces, spending maybe 1/4 of our budget on a keeper seems excessive?

I know a genuine Chelsea fan who spoke to me yesterday after hearing the rumours, and was very impressed with this one. So if it's sending a clear message to people who arent our rivals, surely even being strongly linked will make a few people around us sit up and take notice.

Looks like the Mercury article was accurate that he would be holding talks with us and West Brom over the next two days, but it also said that he favoured a move to West Brom

I'm getting the same reaction up here in Newcastle, speaking to both Toon fans & Mackems they all seem pretty impressed at the possibility of us signing Carson. The Sunderland fan could'nt believe we might get him for 4mill considering how much they paid for Gordon. He obviously rated Gordon highly, but didn't consider him to be worth an extra 5million more than the sums being quoted with Carson! He had no idea we were even linked with Fulop but was fully aware of the Carson rumours. It can't be a bad thing surely!

Re an earlier post - is Carson worth £2m more than Fulop?
I would guess that he is, given his additional experience at Prem level - which will hopefully lead to him bossing our defence next year.
Willing to be stood corrected but think he is the highest profile player we've been meaningfully linked with this summer?
(Although I am 'reliably informed' that Ronaldo was checking out penthouses in Shelton and Cobridge last week)
