www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/Nugent-I39m-going-nowhere.4278466.jpHe doesn't look like he wants to budge. Nugent - I'm going nowhereRumours of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. David Nugent is going nowhere. The arrival of Ben Sahar and the imminent return of Peter Crouch have inevitably cast doubt over the future of the 23-year-old.
The likes of Hull, Birmingham and Stoke are now being strongly linked with raiding Fratton Park for the one-time England man.
Not that Nugent is the slightest bit interested.
While only too aware of the fight on his hands with Jermain Defoe – a definite first-team starter and Kanu, who is expected to sign for another year – quitting is not an option.
The Liverpudlian is adamant he wants to remain on the south-coast – regardless of the increased opposition he now finds himself vying with.
Nugent said: 'Over the summer you always have a look in the papers to see what's going on and you cannot ignore the fact we have been looking at a couple of strikers.
'It's all about competition for places and although Milan Baros is not coming back, Ben Sahar has arrived and now it looks like Peter Crouch will be as well.
'That's football. I'm not going to get frustrated about it. It's down to me to just prove what I can do.
'We are in Europe and I want to be part of it.
'I don't want to leave this football club now and I intend to stay. I want to show what I can do.
'I read in the papers earlier this summer that Birmingham and Hull were supposedly interested in me.
'Well, I would not want to join a side that had just come up to the Premier League or a team that has just been relegated.
'This is where I want to be and I'm still looking for somewhere to live at the moment.
'I did have a house in Fareham lined up, but I had to pull out when a survey showed subsidence.
'It was a shame because I really wanted it – it's just my luck at the moment.
'Hopefully I can get a place in a couple more months, but I want to stay with Portsmouth.'
At least Harry Redknapp is saying all the right things about Nugent's future, publicly assuring him he remains part of his plans.
The former Preston man can also take heart from his last Pompey contribution when he conjured up an impressive cameo appearance after climbing off the bench in the FA Cup triumph.
He almost netted with a fierce angled shot late on, drawing a spectacular save from Peter Enckelman.
And he hopes to build on that last Blues outing.
He added: 'The season finished well for me at Wembley and it was nice to play part of the game.
'I didn't score but felt I did well when I came on.
'It was a good experience and nice that the fans – as well as my family – could see what I could do.
'Hopefully I can build on that and I'm looking forward to trying my hardest in pre-season training.
'It's an important season for me.'

Well that sounds like a definite non-starter then! Despite 2 'insider info' posts on here suggesting otherwise. Things do change in football though.
Nugent would have been a good signing but if he wants to stay and fight for his place for another season at an established club then I don't really blame him.
I just hope their is some truth in the Kitson reports. Whilst I like Nugent, I would be much happier with Kitson.

Thank fuck for that. Why would we want someone with such a shit attitude. He's done fuck all to prove himself in the Prem apart from whinge about not getting enough games and then saying he'd rather sit on the bench at Pompey than move. It's not even as if his scoring record is really anything to wank over. Personally I hope he rots in Redknapps reserves the tosser.

In other words "I would prefer to stay on the bench and take my money while doing fuck all." Bob on fella, he is going to get little or no first team action at Pompey especially with the arrival of Crouch. If he wants to sit on the bench rather than play thats his business. His attitude is not the best, so lets move on but for Gods sake lets move quickly, its getting on my tits

Even if he now gets told he can fuck off by Harry I hope we steer well clear. At his age he should be chomping at the bit to play football but he seems happy enough having a kick around in training and hitting the clubs at night.
WHAT A TOSSER

Just had a quick look at his stats. His professional career started at Bury in 2002 where he played until 2005 playing 88 times and scoring 18 goals. He then moved to Preston where he played 94 times scoring 33 goals from 2005-2007. He then moved to Pompey where he has done fuck all squared.
So to sum it up he has played from 2002 - 2008 , 197 times scoring 51 goals which is one goal about every 4 games. Hardly wanking stats are they?

Maybe he'll wake up soon.
Mind you, if you're that way inclined, it might be quite nice getting 20-grand a week for doing the square root of sod all.
On the face of it though, it seems about as categoric ' I'm not signing for Stoke or Hull' as you'll ever see.

What a knob. 'Oh please please please Mr Nugent, come and grace us with your presence at lowly Stoke City, what an honour it would be!' Go and get a better striker with a better attitude TP, shouldn't be too hard really.

Stoke need two strikers.I'm sure most would aggree with this.
where are they coming from?
deal with Pompey for Nugent should be straight forward for all sorts of reasons. taking his above comments at face value he's going to stay there presumably until January when he realises that he isnt going to play @ all. (perhaps?).

I personally wouldn't have minded him. He could have made a fresh start with us, got a solid pre-season behind him - Tone would get him fit and ready...but if he really wants to just laze around on the bench at pompey then sod him. Harry will see him as making up the 2 extra subs next season. Crouch and Defoe will be the first choice pairing.

He clearly isn't that bothered about playing as it's obvious to all that Defoe and Crouch will be the first choice pairing and he won't really get a look in. Given that attitude, I think if we were interested, we've possibly dodged a bullet. We're going to need players who are going to roll their sleeves up and be prepared to fight for the cause, Nugent doesn't strike me as that type of player.
