In Foreign fields by Dan Collins, top book if you want first hand accounts of people who are serving in Iraq and Afghan.

Read all of the Chris Ryan and Andy McNab books - good reads.
Just finished 1984 by George Orwell which is ok.
Soul Catcher is a cracking read.
Critical Judgement by Michael Palmer is a good read too.
Dean Koontz is a good author have read quite a few of his.
Currently reading Brethren by Robyn Young which is hard work to be honest!

Absolutly beautiful Hope you enjoy. I can see why you need reading material. on tripadvisor it's ranked number 1 of all the hotels in the DR (350+ hotels). Dirt cheap for the Caribbean too. And yeah, there aint a lot to do except eat, drink and get horny

Sniper One - Dan Mills - 9/10 Strike Back - Chris Ryan - 9/10 Crossfire - Andy McNabb - 8/10 Common as Muck: The Autobiography of Roy 'Chubby' Brown - half way through it. enjoying it. 8/10 so far My Manchester United Years - Bobby Charlton (yes, i know....) never took it with me
by the way, the holiday was amazing... if anyone, like me, flicks right over the "Dominican Republic" pages in the brochures - don't!! cayo levantado is paradise
