Fans' favourite Carl Dickinson says keeping Stoke City in the Premier League next season would mean even more than helping them get there. The tough-tackling left-back became the face of City's promotion celebrations when he was pictured with fans on the Britannia Stadium pitch after their final-day draw with Leicester City. But while he will always treasure that memory, "Dicko" says Premier League survival would be an even greater achievement. He said: "It would definitely mean a lot more. Obviously, it was great to get promoted, but to stay in the top league - in what I think is the best league in the world - would be absolutely amazing. "Hopefully we can do it. We all know it is going to be tough. You look at what happened to Derby last season and no one wants that to happen to us. I don't think it will." Dickinson, from Swadlincote in Derbyshire, is also a former Rams youth player. He was given regular updates on Derby's woes last season. He said: "I was at Derby from the ages of 10 to 15. A load of my mates support them, but I am actually glad they went down because all my family are Forest supporters. "I think we will do well if we work hard enough. "You could see the togetherness the team had last season. "We all want to work for each other and everyone will want to run that extra yard. "If someone's not having the best of games, then there is always someone to give them a kick up the backside." Dickinson's whole-hearted approach has helped endear him to fans. However, he was only booked three times last season and is confident his game won't fall foul of Premier League referees. He added: "I do like a tackle, that's a big part of my game. "I am a defender and my job is to stop players either crossing the ball or scoring. "You get referees who will blow for anything. But, hopefully, they can see a good, honest tackle and won't mind a bit of bone on bone." In all my life I have never read about or heard a player say "im glad that they went down"
