2 weeks ago I stood talking to Everton scouts at our under 7's game they were scouting 4 lads of ours, there was also a Man Utd scout there and he was looking at the same lads, last week we had a Crewe scout there - Where are Stoke in the Cheshire area ? I had an e-mail from Witton Albion last night, on the back of their free season tickets to all players in junior football under 14, their game on the 12th Jan is £5 only for adults and free for kids, and have asked local junior football clubs to distribute the tickets. They must be doing something right, they are 6 points clear of their league and crowds have almost doubled and nearly catching up with Vics , nice to see somebody with a business plan and going forward with it. If Witton and Vics merged they would be a good non league force or even do a dagenham and Redbridge

Yep got to agree with you about Stoke scouts, I've been involved in junior football for a few years and my experiences are the same as yours, but some people on here won't have it.

Mark, Word has got about of the same 4 lads, 2 are already in Liverpool training camps, Everton are trying to get 2, Man Utd and Crewe were asking about the same 4 and had a chat with the parents, they have obviously got something about them, pity one of the dads is a Man City fan !

Lads aged 6 and 7 are being fought over by clubs?
Good grief. I don't want to be rude but these are boys that have only just learned to walk.
What is it coming to?

Mark, Obviously the manner on your post has been influenced by the pitcure, "kiddies" spring to mind Lets let the foreigners start theirs at 5 and 6 on ball skills and we wait until the lads are spotty then coach them to tackle dirty is that the current British tactics ? and didn't Notts County sell a 15 year old for £1million, and Southampton a 16 year old for £5 million, not bad if you can spot them early, give them good coaching crewepotter you have a message

MarkW,
They need to be taught the basics at an early age. I agree with you in the respect that i wish it were FA approved coaches, but at least this way it's not left to some over-zealous dad who firmly believes his son is a genius.
However, these kids should be going to local clubs, not whisked off to fucking Everton.

Gents,
Please understand that my comment was in no means meant to be critical of any opportunity for a young lad to get coaching in football skills. Indeed I am all for it.
I was simply expressing my dismay at the North West "giant" clubs approach of trawling to the very limits of their catchment areas and beyond to hoover up every young lad who can kick a ball.
It is the motivation behind what they do and the way that they do it that rankles with me.
The motivation most certainly is not to provide a football skills training facility within their own local community as I believe it should be at that age. It is driven by sheer greed and selfishness with very little regard for the young lads involved.
They even go as far as to coax lads away from their local coaching centres where they will receive just as effective ball skill training just out of fear and the afforementioned greed.
The bottom line is that unless they are looking at a prodigy such as a Pele their army of scouts, who blaze on about going to Man U and playing for England, can't spot if a lad is ever going to be a footballer. You just can't do it.
They should go and spend their money on providing facilities in their own areas instead of the fisherman armies.

perhaps there is a strong case for taking the role of developing players under 16 away from the clubs.

I've been to Witton a few times - as a pitch-side snapper, but I can recommend the non-league experience to anyone.
On the occasions I went it seemd like a great "small club" atmosphere. Practically everyone knew each other - from players to fans and the banter was great. If any Stokies fancy a "week off" when Stoke aren't at home I can recommend a trip to Wyncham Park.
