Wasn't he linked with Hull yesterday? Glasgow Evening Times
Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has reiterated that another man linked with Celtic, James McFadden, "is not for sale," while Stoke are the latest club to show an interest in Georgios Samaras, who has expressed his desire to join Celtic permanently following his five-month loan spell at Parkhead.
Manchester City's £3m asking price, plus the player's wage demands, could be too rich for Strachan whose first-choice strike pairing will again be Scott McDonald and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

He's got ability. Pearce shelled out 6m on him after his exploits in Holland, didn't he?
And he looked good initially. I remember Wenger was saying how he'd been interested in him while he was Heerenveen.
Probably nothing in this link though! And he seems a bit lazy and in-and-out to be a Pulis striker.

He is full on shocking but apparently has a lot of potential, thing is our Tone doesn't really help his strikers improve too much

Has ability, attitude is dodgy. Failure to do much in the SPL is a pretty damning indictment.

I would rather hope we signed his countryman Charisteas who I think would suit our style of play perfectly. A better edition of Mama in my opinion. Can see Ipswich being linked with Charisteas today as well. Come on Tony, this is the closest you will get to Marlon without getting the man himself!

He's got something, but I'd be surprised if Pulis was really in for him.

My point is that TP can improve a defender's game and has done so with many of our bunch but forward wise he tends to go for experience, any players with potential if they are in fact bought tend to stay at the level they were when they arrived - Pericard, Beast, Sidibe
In fact look how long Patto was with us stale and when he moved he was developed into a £1m plus Championship striker (granted first team games helped)

Steer clear, Tone, for God's sake.

We describe players as shit as if the strikers we’ve got already who are not named Ricardo are any good! They’re not.
He would be a vast improvement on what we've got and I’d give him a whirl on his pre Man City and international reputation if his wage demands weren’t ludicrous.

Thought Tone's No.1 rule was to get BETTER players than we've already got...

Samaras is better than Pericard, Parkin and Sidibie put together

Sheikh, in terms of players have value to our 'system', which I take it we're sticking to in the Prem, I'm not sure he adds any. 6 footer he may be, but a workaday battering-ram he ain't.

big things were expected after his spell in Holland - looked like he was going to be a major star.
all gone wrong for him.
rather have some of the other strikers we have been linked with, even Mpenza, but there has to be an element of giving the player the benefit of the doubt. after all he was playing in Pearces moribund Citeh not Svens jazzed up version.
if the price/wages are reasonable might be worth a gamble.
maybe.
just about.
Charisteas @ £2.5m from Nurenburg woukd be better though I aggree

I'd be fairly pleased if we signed him, whilst you can't pretend that he was great for man city, he clearly wasn't at his best there, you could tell that even if you had never seen him before.
I would take Mpenza too, I saw him play well as a lone striker in several games last season, and i think he'd fit in nicely to our system.
I would want either of those 2 to be in a selection of 3 or 4 strikers though, but at the moment we've basically just got ric.

Whilst he isn't a world beater he is certainly about as good as I would expect us to get. He has scored goals at a high level and that is not an easy quality to get hold of within our budget. I'm still not sure who people think we will sign but rest assured they will be of a standard very similar to Samaras as our financial situation dictates it.

samaras would be a good signing imo . Lost his way at Man City but clealy has ability .
ps. To say TP doesn't improve strikers is not true . Fuller , Ade , Mama and Gifton all improved their game under Pulis .

Didn't Fuller get 1 goal in 30 games for Pompey? Easy to label a player shit in the Prem, City hardly bring the best out of players. A decent player who has lost his way could be our best bet to be realistic- we're not going to land players who have impressed in the Prem really are we? Players like Bent and Samaras might be our real hope- Gardiner fits that category also.
We need to build a solid team not bring in over-paid wage seekers. Everton don't stand out for example as a team of big big names and individuals but they are very hard to beat. Not for one second saying we'll have a side of their ranking but they play well together. We have to be realistic and build a solid side to survive in the league. Maybe then we can 'push on' as Tone would say- Wigan have proved it can be done
