Aren't you sick of all those high paid teachers? Their hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work nine or ten months a year! It's time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do...baby-sit! We can get that for less than minimum wage. That's right. I would give them £3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked, not any of that silly planning time. That would be a day (7:45 AM to 4:00 PM with 45 min. off for lunch). Each parent should pay £19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children. Now, how many do they teach in a day... maybe 30?
So that's 19.50 X 30 = £585.00 a day. However, remember they only work 180 days a year! I am not going to pay them for any vacations. Let's see . ...
that's £585 x 180 = £105,300 per year. (Hold on!my calculator must need batteries!) What about those special teachers and the ones with Master's degrees? Well, we could pay them minimum wage just to be fair, £5.52 an hour. That would be £5.52 times 6.5 hours times 30 children times 180 days = £193,752.00 per year. Wait a minute, there is something wrong here!
Make a teacher smile; send this to someone who appreciates teachers! (Average teacher salary £21,000/180 days = £116.66 per day/30students = £3.88/ 6.5 hours = £0.59 per hour per student.) Very inexpensive babysitter, and they even educate your kids!> Crazy, eh!> ;D

Teachers get £21k a year to read from a book and take 14weeks holiday a year.
Nurses get the same for saving peoples lives, 13 hour shifts, half that holiday and get treated like shit.
Theres the real fuck up in this country.

Misguided fool? No, just sick of hearing whiney teachers moaning about how hard done to they are. Yes they are doing an important job, but too many are more bothered about the salery and too quick to go on strike (or threaten it) than they are to teach. Fuck me, even the police were threatening to strike yet NHS staff have to sign a no strike clause in thier contracts to be able to work so have no ability to blackmail the government like the other public sector workers. Do you honestley believe that teachers are more valuable than medical staff?

Do you honestley believe that teachers are more valuable than medical staff? Haven't you honestly realised that there wouldn't be a medical staff without teachers? Where have I said that other public sector roles are less important? I haven't. Any worker has the right to strike, as long as they ballot properly, it's the law, so you're incorrect there. Teachers have been on strike ONCE in the last 20 years, that was recently and that was the NUT not the ATL or NASUWT. I don't mind debating with you but it's important the facts are clear. What do you classify as "too many" Teachers? 100? 100.000? It's an important subject so I'd be interested to know. It's clear you have no idea what is actually going in the state school system, I'm writing with 13 years experience.

If people understood the amount of work that is done by teachers then there would be no moaning. I am realising what a difficult, stressful, tiresome and time consuming job being a teacher is (I still love it tough!)

My Mrs. is a head teacher, although close to Stoke her school is under Staffs rather than Stoke.
I can't speak for all teachers but the ones I see at her school work extremely hard for every child, they are the hardest working people I see. As for my Mrs. I've never seen anyone try or work harder. You should see what goes on in schools if you think they "read from books."
You also don't mention that most teachers have gone to Uni to get their qualifications. My Wife went Sixth form for 2 years, Uni for 4 and has still done a Masters degree (and another something) whilst working and paid for it by herself.
You just see the amount of holidays and form a view. Go past most schools in the holidays and the teachers are in, and when they do have a holiday they have to pay full price for doing so.

WTF - so basically you are saying that without teachers there wouldn't be any other profession? What a pisser - your not that fucking important!! Important in what way? Important as in without teachers, i.e. educators, there wouldn't be other professions, bricklayers to nuclear scientists all have to be taught, do they not? Not rocket science to understand that basic premise, is it?

So who was it who taught Newton about the law of gravity then??
What you are not getting is that the world would not come to a standstill without teachers!!
People discover new things, techniques etc... without the aid of 'teachers'.
People survive without them - you are not really that important - but are a bunch of overpaid, whinging baby sitters!!

I challenge you to spend a term, no a week, in a struggling comprehensive school, then come back and try and repeat what you said. Newton couldn't have formulated his theories without being taught how to work them out, or think. Are you really so narrow minded that you fail to understand this basic concept? You know nothing, can't see the point in discussing this further with you.

Oh...and as for a struggling comprehensive...is that not your fault for not being good enough??

Why on earth should I stoop to your level of cheap shots and insults? You mistake thinking for brainwashing my friend. Why don't you google "critical thinking skills" or "cognitive reckoning" and come back to me when you have something of worth to write, in the meantime, enjoy your weekend.
