One for Ilford maybe..
I am being sent something valuable to the tune of about 10k by post and am struggling to find a decent courier that doesn't cost the earth - seems those that carry additional insurance like this like to charge 1-1.5% of the item value to the customer...
At present it looks like risking Special Delivery 9am but it would only be insured for 2.5k if lost. Does anyone know any decent companies that have a reasonable add on for high value items?
Royal Mail have an extended compensation scheme but it seems to only cover those things that if lost will lead to loss of more money (consequential loss) up to 10k but then they say not to send anything via them worth over 2.5k?!
Other option is to suck it up and go back down to London to get it I suppose...
Help!

if its worth so much money, then its worth paying the extra .
i take it you have asked the usual suspects
UPS DHL FedEx
etc.
have you tried parcel Force ?
do you want it same day or overnight company i work for does both .
a few of our clients just dont bother telling us how much is worth. but a few mental calculations has stuck a figure on teh following I have carried £25K worth of champagne £80K worth of computer servers a £10K dress £12k Of glass sculptuors

Yep, tried all of those
Just after an overnight job that is insured up to 10k without paying through the nose really...
Having not used Royal Mail's Special Delivery by 9am before I don't know if I have anything to worry about, you would 'think' it goes through less hands etc but you never know...

If you arnt in a rush for the item the best bet is to get a sameday courier who is already going to London and will fetch it back for you as a "backload". Try this site www.couriersoncall.co.uk

Ha thanks for the offers - missus is now looking forward to a trip to London next week.
And many apologies to the person who I seem to have offended through this thread who saw fit to smite me twice...
